Jade has been sitting closer and closer and today she flew over and sat on my knee! I didn't even have any food.

OMG - it is a Christmas miracle Wonder why she has finally decided that, after all this time, you are not the big, bad wolf.

She's been inching this way for a while. Sitting on the boing or the nearest cage. Letting me "accidentally" touch her head when she offers her beak. Preening my hair while I clean her cage. I could see by her body language that she wanted to sit on me, and I coaxed, but I was still stunned.

awww that is wonderful. They really do like human attention and I guess Jade is now ready.

It's only taken the better part of seven years. LOL Jade joined the family in January 2009, and had been locked in her cage and mostly ignored for long enough that she attacked and bit any hand that got within reach. Cleaning her cage was an adventure. Miniscule bit by miniscule bit we reached a point where I could occasionally, by invitation, touch her beak. I have never been able to pet her, and she has stepped up only when she was in trouble -- she took a wrong turn and got confused in the hallway once, for example, and let me carry her back to her cage. I had long ago given up on that and accepted the rules she made. Talking to her is good. She likes that. She'll take a treat from your hand politely and say "thank you." She will on rare occasions come sit nearby if I have food and she wants some. Then she started sitting nearby when I didn't have food. She leaned forward and did all the things the others do when they want to sit on me. And then ... she sat on me! Last night, she started to do it again, but Clyde leaped off my hand and lunged just as she was about to touch down and she went back to a perch. He is horribly jealous of her. He doesn't mind if Benjy sits on me. He doesn't like it, but allows the tiels to sit on me as long as I don't pay too much attention to them. But he absolutely hates it when I give Jade any attention at all. Even talking to her sets him off. She stood her ground the other night, even when he lunged, so she may have also decided to stop putting up with that. She defers to him as a rule (he's the only one she defers to) but there may be a new sheriff in town. LOL

Wow... that is a great story Siobhan... just too bad Jade took so long to settle in. Nice that she is standing her ground a little more now and perhaps one day they will all be playing together. Wouldn't that be a treat?
