Jade has been letting me touch her beak for a while now, and she has a certain signal she gives that means she wants me to. If I try to do it absent this signal, she lunges and tries to chomp. This morning she gave the signal and she tipped her head just as I made contact so that I stroked the top of her head instead of her beak, and I think she did that on purpose. We may be nearing a new breakthrough. If Clyde weren't so insanely jealous, we might have reached that point before now. He'll let me talk to her from across the room or sit by her cage for a few moments and talk to her and then here he comes to put a stop to it, and Jade defers to him, so when he snarls at her and chomps me, she backs down. I don't always, but if she retreats, I have to give up.

Slowly but surely, Jade has been making good progress in her interactions with you.  Now, if Clyde wouldn't come along to interefere, maybe that progress would go quicker-- but I suppose Clyde will be Clyde.  |

Congratulations Siobhan on progress with Jade. I cannot imagine dealing with a jealous bird while trying to pattern behaviors with another one. Definitely sounds like Clyde sets the pecking order.

Today I took popcorn in with me and Jade actually landed on my arm to get some.

She first flew over and got on the back of my chair, and I gave her a piece of popcorn and she flew back to her cage to eat it. When it was gone, she was bobbing her head and leaning toward me, and I held up my arm and said, "Well, come and get some more," and she DID. I was stunned. She took it from me as pretty as you please and flew back to her cage.

awww that is so sweet Siobhan. I know my QP loves it when I scratch his bill but mostly along the edges and not so much on top.

Now, if Clyde wouldn't come along to interefere, maybe that progress would go quicker-- but I suppose Clyde will be Clyde.
