It is currently 40+ degrees Celsius in Sydney - be closer to 41-42 at my place. My housemate had to go out but she has very kindly left the air conditioning on for the birds (she doesn't really use it for herself). I am leaving shortly to make sure Shah and the flock (and Emma the dog) are okay. Not looking forward to the walk to the bus stop though (about 20 mins).

That is brutal! At its worst here, I try to go from air conditioned site to air conditioned site with as little as possible in between. With our car culture, it's usually not that hard to do. My dog, Wanda, loves the heat. She'll lie on her back in the sun, all splayed out, even on the hottest days.

Emma is a hot dog - she has an undercoat - but I had her clipped last week so am thankful I did it then as she doesn't handle the heat well. It is 9pm and the temp has dropped to 30 degrees. They say a change has reached us but I have just been outside and the wind is hot. The birds are fine - the house was lovely and cool when I walked in - to be met with the usual abuse from Shah. I hear him practicing his words quite often now - it really is a joy to hear

I'd trade my weather for yours. I mean, I don't like it really hot but I don't like the cold either. Here in the US some places have already started getting snow.

Yeah, I agree with that. It's not even that cold yet around here (DC metro area), but I'm already tired of it. I hear it's going below freezing this weekend. Curses!

I don't know if the same has been happening in Sydney, Jan, but where I am in Melbourne we have a hot day followed by a cold one, so it's really hard for me to adjust back to the cooler weather (I am OK in hotter weather but my feet are often half numb if it's under 18 degrees Celsius). A couple of weeks ago we had 35C followed by 17C the very next day - crazy! Yes, the heat can be very hard on our beloved doggie pets.

Today has been 24 - and feels lovely although it is now 7.30pm at night and feels cold. I had the fan on last night and will probably have to put a blanket on tonight. It must drive the animals insane with the constant change of weather. Shah is getting really crabby and I think it is due to the constant weather changes.
