we went over together and had a look at Elsie and said hello First of all, congrats on the new fid! I'm not trying to be a party pooper, but you probably shouldn't let them close to each other at all until the quarantine is over. The purpose of the quarantine is to protect your other birds from any illnesses the new bird you're introducing to the home may have. Some illnesses may not present themselves for multiple weeks, which is why a 30-45 day quarantine is reccommended. Some of these illnesses are airborne, which is why a proper quarantine involves seperate rooms, and washing your hands and arms after handling the new bird, or any of the new birds belongings. That said, I was unable to do a proper quarantine, due to my living arrangements. I put the cages the furthest apart I could (about 30 feet, but in the same room). I did wash my hands every time after handling the new bird, tho. After about two weeks, Yoshi was starting to fly over to Mellys cage. He was still molting, so had new flight feathers coming in and I wasn't on top of them. He did this a few times, and after about 3.5 weeks I decided my quarantine attempt was shot anyhow, and introduced them.

I recently added a Sun Conure to my flock. Yoshi was just over a year old when I brought her home. He didn't like her right from the start, but he's starting to tolerate her more.
Due to me working night shift, I don't get to give them much individual one on one time. Instead, I usually have both of them with me. They do get into fights, every day, usually over one of them trying to steal the others food (they are both guilty). Melly (the Sun Conure) does try to play nice with Yoshi, but if she gets close to him he will snap at her, and she immediately starts screaming. I'm not sure if they ever will become friends, I suspect Yoshi won't have it.
Be sure to research bringing another parrot into the home. You'll need to know how to do a proper quarantine of the new bird for a month or so. A discussion with your vet is always a good thing too, they can give you some great advice.

Sort of. Yoshi likes to practice his talking while I'm asleep. He seems to not want to say new things in my presence unless he thinks he's perfected them.
Just today, I woke up and heard him saying "You want to go on a grand adventure?". Which is what I ask him before we go places - to the post office, or to parents house, etc. He's never said that phrase before in my presence, but kept repeating it today when he didn't realize I had woken up (tho he has said "adventure" before). He said it very well, too!

Even tho he LOOKS bigger, Yoshi still maintains his weight of 94-95g. I don't know if his feathers came in bigger and fluffier or what, but he looks bigger than he did a year ago, but has maintained the same weight.

Is there something new on the bookcase, or near...or even within line of sight? Sometimes they can take a dislike towards new objects and act this way.

Sigh.. life is never going to be the same You couldn't be more correct. But even with all you have to deal with, it's worth every minute.

I got Melly into the vet today, mostly just to ease my mind, but also because she was sneezing a lot (it was just clear fluid like normal, but she doesn't normally sneeze more than once or twice a day that I notice).
The doctor was able to see where the wire punctured through. She said it looks like Melly got very lucky, as it could have easily been much worse than what it was. She said Melly looks good, and didn't want to give her antibiotics without knowing she has an infection, so I'm to keep a close eye on her over the next few days.

Very surprised to hear about some of these foods! I was very strict on what I fed Yoshi in the begining, but I've eased up a bit. I share whole wheat bread with him, greek yogurt, popcorn, tater tots, and for the past few days he's had some spaghetti noodles. All in moderation, of course.

The right side is the actual wire I pulled out of her beak. You can see where I cut the bulk of it off so that she would stop snagging it on things so I could work with her more easy. The short end was actually all the way in her mouth, sticking out! You can see the wire in the new toy is just twisted around at the top. I should have noticed this and caught it as a hazard .

So funny!
Yoshi doesn't scream or yell at Melly, my Sun Conure, but if I go to her cage and get her before him he will sit on top of his cage taking his "I'm gonna fly that way!" stance towards me until I go get him.
He doesn't really like her, tho. He's beginning to tolerate her a little more tho. I think it's mostly due to him being pretty mellow, and wanting to just chill on my shoulder and observe. Melly on the other hand, she's extremely hyper and literally does laps around my neck, 100 miles per hour. I think this makes Yoshi nervous, and he ends up lunging at her.

So last night my Sun Conure, Melisandre, gave me a huge scare that I still haven't calmed down from. She was on top of her cage playing, and I was across the room. The next thing I know, I hear her thrashing about.
She had a toy, it was a piece of wire with wooden popsicle sticks and wooden beads on it. The wire looped around at the top to attatch to the clip, to hook onto the cage. She had just finished destroying the toy that day (it lasted her 2 full days, she's such a shredder), and I hadn't removed the wire yet. Well, I guess she was chewing on the top of the wire and managed to bend the loop around into a U shape. She somehow then managed to poke that loop through the small opening in the very back of her bottom beak, so she was "hooked". I had to hold her still and unscrew the toy so I could have room to see what was going on. It took well over 5 minutes, but I managed to hold her still in a towel, on her back, and got a pair of wire cutters and was able to remove the bulk of the wire toy - since it kept getting snagged on things as she was thrashing and fighting me. After this, I was finally able to pull the rest of the wire out.
I tried to inspect her the best I could, but this happened just 30 minutes before I had to leave for work. It didn't look like anything was wrong in the area under her beak, and I didn't see any blood there. Right before I left, I managed to get a peek into her mouth. She had some blood on her tongue, but not a large amount, and it looked like it was already partially dry or hardened - not fresh. My mom visited my house twice over the past some hours to check on her, and she seems to be doing ok. I'm so stressed over it.
So, I wanted to post this as a warning to everyone. I will be removing all toys that are made this way from both my bird cages, and if I receive any more like them I will be taking them apart and hanging them from yarn or something.

Maybe they like to learn words that get them a result they like. I'd say this is true. Yoshi has picked up "you want a treat?" and says it... a lot

That's really impressive, way to go Bonnie!
We call head scratches "scritches". For the longest time yoshi would say it back just as "skris". He's finally gotten the hang of pronouncing it, after nearly a year.
