Somehow, Yoshi managed to scrape the back of his leg while I was asleep. I awoke to this. It's dried over and isn't bleeding any more, but I'm still worried about infection. Is there any way I should treat this? I think it's only a scrape, as he walks fine on it and is otherwise acting like nothing is wrong.

Yoshi has always been very good about bed time and time to wake up. When the cover goes on, to the time I take it off he's always been silent. That's changed a bit since I've returned to school, but I can't blame him. I put them to bed around 9:30pm, right as I'm heading to work. On days I have work and school I'm not back until 1-2pm the following day. So he doesn't get his cage uncovered all that time. He's always squawking as soon as I get in the door on those days.
Now my sun conure, melly... She screams at me any time she's in her cage and hears me. On my nights off I can't get up and go to the restroom without her screaming!

I've never had a tiel, but after almost a year my Quaker has finally (mostly) accepted my Sun Conure into the flock. He still doesn't particularly like her, but he tolerates her. Unless there is food, of course, then he thinks it's all his and will chase her if he finishes his before her.
He's surprisingly tolerant of her being on his cage. His cage is right by my computer, where I spend a lot of time when I'm at home, so she flies over to his cage to be near me. 95% of the time he lets her be, as long as she keeps her distance from him. If she gets too close to him, however, he chases her off.
I would suggest keeping their cages apart, and maybe consider clipping the Quaker (remember, this isn't permanent) so that he/she can't fly to your tiels cage.

Have you ever tried tinypic? It's what I use when I need to upload an image. To I don't have an account with them.

I haven't started on it yet, but I will keep your expertise in mind, zim. Oh, I'm no expert! I never advanced beyond my tech class license. I started learning Morse, but never finished. I think they changed the rules, at least here in the states, to not require Morse for the next class tho.

Thanks juliana, good to know Oscar does that sort of thing too during a molt!
I'm actually feeling fine now. They found a lot of stones in my gallbladder, and had to put a stent in my pancreatic duct, and one in my bile duct. I have to go early next month to have the stents removed, and I still need to see a doctor about having my gallbladder removed.

I somehow missed this thread. I got my tech class license when I was 16, and was involved at that time. I haven't messed with it in a while. I've still got a couple mobile rigs, I just never got around to putting one in when I purchased a new truck.
My call sign is KC9CSN

Thank you for the advice and the article. With that information, and another Google search, I was able to locate his gland. It looks normal from what I can tell, and he was surprisingly well behaved and let me examine the area (he usually doesn't let me do things like that)!
I guess I'll continue monitoring him, and if anything else seems off or if the frequency of him doing that increases I'll get a vet appointment.
I got to thinking after I made this post, and I'm wondering if it could be his molt bothering him - his new tail feathers coming in. He's lost a couple of them over the past week or so, along with a couple flight feathers.

Is that something that just happens, or is it cause for concern? I'll make the vet trip if I need to, but I'm drowning in my own medical bills at the moment from a case of pancreatitis and a 5 day stay in the hospital a few weeks ago .

I guess I got lucky - A full newspaper sheet fits the tray in Yoshi's cage pretty much perfectly!

For a few days now, I've seen Yoshi reaching his left foot back and grabbing the area where his tail feathers meet his body. I've tried to inspect the area, and I can't see anything wrong. He hasn't been acting differently, and everything else seems fine, but it seems like something in that area may be bothering him. Anyone else noticed their birds doing this?

After reading your posts about all your birds, I can't help but imagine a circus of birds! You've got more than your hands full with that bunch. Poor Benjy tho :\

Yep, biteybird, he rode on my shoulder the whole time. Since he's clipped, he knows he can't fly well and doesn't try unless something startles him. Before taking him to the bird fair, I tried slowly introducing him to being around people by taking him to some pet friendly stores while I shopped. He did great every time, so I decided to bring him to the bird fair with me. I had a travel cage in the truck just in case he had any issues.
Most of the birds that were there were for sale and in cages. The macaws in the background belonged to a vendor who makes and sells those stands the macaws are perched on. He was there last year with them too, so I'm sure he goes to many bird fairs with them and they are comfortable in that setting.

A couple weeks ago I took Yoshi to the bird fair in Springfield, IL. He was so good during the whole thing! When we first entered the building, he saw some big macaws which frightened him and he flew off my shoulder. I retrieved him, and after that he stayed on my shoulder the whole time! He's never been around this many birds, or this many people. We both really enjoyed it.
