We tried using a sock with a hole cut in it for her head once with Cupcake. It was kind of a sad experiment. She tolerated it being on well enough, but without having her wings to help her balance, she fell over beak-down on the table and got stuck that way. That was the last time we tried that. She looked at us like "Guys, what are you doing to me?".

I was guessing it was at least $3k and wagered it was probably more. It's such an amazing thing to be willing to spend this much on your birds, Easttex. I'm sure I'd do it too-- but the whole thing is a bit scary.
I see, so he's already gotten the first Lupron shot of the series. I missed that detail somehow. I'm very hopeful that the first one is helping.

Yeah, in re-reading my post I think I probably downplayed the concussion risk more than I should have. Perhaps I was being too optimistic. This bird should probably be seen by an avian vet.

Well I certainly find other people's posts amusing to sort through at times, but I am just not much for posting myself. I ran a social network for several years before facebook or myspace took off, and I think I got enough social networking for a lifetime at that point in my life.

It's so great that you guys have figured things out with Rocky. So fantastic. Things seemed pretty grim there for a little bit!

Gosh Jan, I'm sorry to hear this... The money aspect is such a challenge. Between you and Easttex I am really thinking about looking into bird health insurance, although in my initial investigations I've read mixed things about any options I've found. I like the idea of a volume discount! Seems fair to me. Will be sending positive and healthy thoughts for little Pippin.

Yeah, Facebook is something of a necessary evil these days. I'm definitely not a fan of frequently posting, however... but it's nice to have that easy way to contact so many people. I don't love the lack of privacy, though.

I love that "kiss and make it better" with Rocky... That is awesome. What a sweetie.

Well I'm glad to hear he was hungry-- that's a good sign at least. Poor guy is going through so much (you too!) He's such a sweetie pie.
Yeah, I've been wondering how much this is costing you as well. It must be a fortune. The hospital really sounds amazing though.
Why are they waiting so long to do the lupron injection?

Welcome! It's very nice of you to take this little one in. Poor little guy is probably extremely stressed out right now. It doesn't sound like he is particularly terrified by you, however, so that's good. He's just telling you to keep your distance, probably not unlike what our QP, Cupcake, does when a stranger or delivery person comes to our front door. A peaceful environment and rest is probably what he needs right now. Generally speaking these little guys will come to you to interact when they are finally comfortable enough to do it. So if you can get him a cage situation where you can leave the door open and let him come to you, that will tell you he is ready to interact with you. Otherwise, you can try sitting nearby and speaking softly to him, although watch out for intense fear responses-- if you're scaring him, it's best to back off and let him be. If you decide to try interacting with him, personally handing him a treat or a snack will help Chances are he is just tired, but if he gets really fluffy and lethargic and does not seem to be moving much, or having trouble perching, or refuses to eat anything at all, you probably want to get him to an avian vet... While it sounds like he has not sustained any injuries from the impact with the window, there's always the possibility that the effects will show up later, so just keep an eye out for that. The other thing that I would note is that you probably want to keep him quarantined from your budgies for 30 days if possible, as there is always the possibility that he picked something up from a wild bird while outside. I really hope you are able to find the owner! But if you find yourself with a new long-term friend, we would be more than happy to help with any issues you may encounter, so feel free to ask! Let us know how things go!

Cupcake will create wounds on my arm, and then prevent them from healing because she feels the scab is something that needs to be removed. She gets very obsessive about it. Typically she does this right where my short sleeves end, and I'm starting to get a ring of scars on my arm in that area I generally don't encourage any form of grooming behavior even if it is totally harmless because I feel like it can encourage this nonsense
