That was nice of the lady to tell you that so just follow her advice and lock up. There are burglaries from time to time where I now live so I have security mesh on the screen doors, locks on the windows, grills on the front windows and deadlocks on the doors. Just crazy to have such security in a country town. However, I do feel quite safe. If you don't feel safe, then you should break the lease but you may be okay.

As you all know, my foster kitten Mia became a permanent fixture. Two weeks ago on Sunday, I noticed she was lethargic and not eating so rushed her to the nearest emergency vet (about an hour away). They immediately took her temperature which was really high, put her on a drip and did a blood test as they suspected renal failure. Kidneys ended up being fine so they transferred her the next day to another vet about 2 kms away. I picked her up from there and transferred her to my vet. Another blood test - the results were not good. One of her muscle enzymes was 31,000 - it should be around 32. All white cell counts were high. She was diagnosed with toxoplasmosis which, it is thought, she contracted in-utero. She was placed back on a drip and kept in hospital until Thursday. She came home with antibiotics. Took her back the following Tuesday as she had stopped eating again (not that she was eating that much in the first place) and had become light sensitive with eyes streaming clear fluid. Her temp was now 40.3 (should be 37) and her chances were 60:40. Another blood test was taken and all results were virtually back to normal, including the muscle enzyme which was at 32. She was given anti-inflammatories and an eye ointment. Each day we battle on - she has about 5 small meals a day - sometimes she eats, sometimes she doesn't. If she recovers, it will be a very long and slow process but I am determined to get her through this. She is only 9 months old and very small for her age (probably due to the toxo). Please say a prayer for her recovery.

Hi Biteybird, sorry I haven't caught up with this thread sooner. Barbed wire eh? Now I wonder what that's for - how many guesses do I get? Hopefully your new neighbours wont be too noisy at night. Gary, what a shame you have to move. How's the house-hunting going?

Shah has never had night frights but the cockatiels occasionally had them. I have a night light in with them but haven't heard anything since I moved here 12 months ago - they have their own room now but the door is left ajar so I can hear what is happening.

What a kind person you are. Bless you for taking in this little one. Easttex has given you great advice. It is amazing what a little love can do so don't give up on your little buddy as it sounds like he is thriving with you. Just give him a little time to improve. Gentle massage on his legs might help as well. Please keep us posted on his progress.

Wow, that really is a big step. But, as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I visited the Northern Territory many, many years ago and absolutely loved it. Tried to get work there when I came back to Sydney but it was hard applying for jobs in another state at that time. I wish you and hubby the best of luck. If you don't do it, you will always regret it. It's very exciting

I might get a CD for Shah. Bonnie might end up doing some dancing to the music

The barramundi is brilliant in the NT. We had fresh caught barramundi when I was there many, many years ago. As I was camping, we had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner

I am about a 3 hour drive from Sydney (which has a temperate climate). I never knew what cold was until I moved here. We are coming into winter so temps at night are often minus and day time temps are single digits. I am busy sealing off the house as I nearly froze to death when I moved here towards the end of last winter. We also get snow in winter and lots and lots of rain. So Easttex, there are cold places in Australia - hard to believe, but it's true. But our summers here are glorious.
