I know that happy huts are not safe for parrots for many reasons. I’m wondering if the teepee kinds are safe? I’ve posted a picture below. It’s not handmade, it’s from the pet shop. Made of fleece and has a fabric covered cardboard bottom. My Quaker loves to snuggle his so I don’t want to remove it but will if it’s a risk. goo.gl/images/TEtqeR

So much depends on the individual parrot. Both my Quakers have happy huts and we've had no problems. They sleep in them every night. If you have a chewer, you'd have to watch out, though. I should think the teepee would be okay, unless it makes your Quaker get crazy hormonal.

Agreed, it all comes down to the individual parrot. Yoshi loves his happy hut and doesn't chew on it. I use snuggle sacks for Melly, tho I have to replace them often because she loves to chew through the floor of them!

Looking at your picture, this teepee looks like it's made from the same material as a happy hut. I'd say that it depends on your bird. Just yesterday I removed our quaker's (Bonnie) happy hut because she suddenly started chewing the crap out of it - after 4 years of not showing any interest. I am considering a wooden platform for her, now. You should keep trying anything you like...but be vigilant, though, as these little creatures are quite changeable!

Sorry I'm a bit late on this topic, as I just joined. I didn't know happy huts are unsafe. I have not purchased one for my QP Gracie as my past experience with huts was not good. My at-the-time budgie bird would act strangely on a hut. I think maybe having sex with it then would become very protective of it, not ever wanting to come out of it. I will never buy a happy hut again! I do like the idea of a platform, but Gracie's starter cage is 18x18 and I'm not sure she'll have enough room for a platform. So she spends her nights on her favorite perch. I haven't heard her fall off her perch in her sleep, so I guess she's doing ok.

Bonnie has a happy hut again. She didn't like the platform I bought her - freaked out with her quaker alarm call whenever we put her in the sleeping cage and wouldn't go near it. We tried the platform for a couple of weeks. Then I relented and bought her a new hut, because I was worried about her not getting enough quality sleep from perching all night. So far she hasn't chewed the new one...so far so good.
