Hello.... I am a mom to a grey and elecutus parrot. I found a young quaker outside this morning. He doesn't appear to be hurt but he is scared yo death. How do I calm him down without stressing him more.
Thanks gwen

I'm not extremely knowledgeable in these situations, but I would say just get him in a situation where he is comfortable, has good food and clean water, and just let him be. If he is truly freaking out if you are simply nearby, then try to keep your distance as much as possible. If you can get near him without him acting terrified, sit and talk to him quietly from outside the cage, perhaps. The others on the site might have better advice than I

Cover the cage on three sides and put a lamp nearby for warmth and comfort, but adjust it so he can get out of the light and heat if he needs to. Give him something yummy and soft like oatmeal, and keep your distance, but speak to him often and reassuringly. Put him where he can hear your birds, but where they can't come and stare at him and upset him further. When you speak to him, sit in a chair so you're not looming over him, and don't put your face right up to the cage.

Should I keep him in another room than the big birds are in the same room. He hears the grey talk and electus swaak then he gets vocal. He won't let me handle him so I just don't.

As long as the big birds aren't hanging around and possibly upsetting him by sitting on his cage or trying to bite him through the bars (which is what MINE would do), having him in the same room might comfort him.

I would put him a separate room. Quarantine is advisable any time you bring in a new bird. Thirty days, at least. Also, make sure you wash up between handling him and your other birds, and vice versa. Are you also txcowgirl on anafricangrey.ca?

I am used to the bigger birds but this little guy is a handful. Thing is, Quakers think they are big AND bad! Don't try and convince him otherwise....... ~Sandee~

So true. These Quakers have such bold personalities for such little birds.
