That sounds like quite a backpacking trip - what a lucky sparrow to go everywhere with her human slaves! I bet she WAS a big hit.
I ordered a medium flightpack for Bonnie. It has the flightsuit (silver gray), leash ('rainbow' colour) and a pack of 30 'diapers' (I'm still laughing about this term, just can't help myself!
It was on the pricey side, all up about $55.00 Australian ($39.99US) because of postage and the currency conversion, but I am short on time and skills when it comes to making my own...so complacency won out in the end.
I'll need to ensure I do the requisite acclimatisation for about a week. They recommend that you hang the flightsuit on your clothes, use it as a play toy with your bird, etc. before even trying to put it on. And have plenty of treats on hand - luckily, Bonnie is VERY food-motivated!
When I feel Bonnie is ready I'll put her in the suit and I'll try to get hubby to video it on the iPad...if she lets us.
I didn't get the leash, I use an aviator harness over top of it. I don't trust the velcro that attaches the leash because yeah it may be able to supposedly hold more than 10 pounds of pressure but eventually velcro wears out and I don't want that to happen when it is in use. Also once you run out of the diaper liners they really aren't a necessary expense, I just fold up a tissue, which we always have around, and stick it in there making sure it won't more around in the pouch and it works just as well.
Oh that price actually wasn't too bad, I saw it for around $120 USD. Some birds do take longer than the week to get used to it also. The hardest part for me and Skye is putting it on. Once it is on though she doesn't care about it anymore because she knows she gets to go outside. I'd use it on my quaker Bishop but he'd never allow that thing to be put on him without me losing a lot of skin and then if it actually gets on he'd make himself bleed trying to bite it off. I haven't tried him but if that's how a towel over him goes when we trim his wings and nails then I'm sure a harness over him would be no different.
