I got home tonight and he was on a branch half way down the cage. I popped him up to a higher branch and he went to the food bowl. I left the room and went back 10 minutes later and his head was still in the food bowl. This is so amazing - I really thought he would be dead by now and while he is not out of the woods yet, he is certainly improving. I am not very happy with the colour of his poos but considering that he hasn't eaten for more than 2 days, I am not that worried. I did more touches on him tonight and noticed that while his keel bone is very sharp, he is a little heavier than what he was this morning so would assume he has been eating throughout the day. He obviously has a strong survival instinct.

What a relief! I hope he continues to improve and that everyone stays healthy. Don't forget to look after yourself.

Jan-- this sounds really tough. I'm sorry. I can certainly understand your consideration of all options, and I will be behind whatever choice you make. That said, I'm glad to hear he is eating again. That is encouraging. We will most certainly be praying for you and little Pippin!!

A little improvement is good! Maybe a little every day and he'll recover. Still praying for him.

Pippin has toxic poisoning from seed sprays that had fungus spores in them.

Oh, NO. Can they treat that?

Yes they can treat it. Unfortunately, I only found out yesterday and couldn't get to the vet as I was about an hour and a half away at the final day of the horse clinic. The vet is closed today but he has told me what to do until I get there tomorrow morning to pick up the medicine. He was a little brighter last night and will check on him shortly. Thanks everyone for your prayers and thoughts - I have had only a taste of what Easttex is going through and it is awful. I think the waiting to see if things improve is probably one of the worst things and trying to do what is right by the bird when you are so emotionally involved. You live with this big tension knot in your stomach because you are so worried about them.

That's great that you know what it is now! Isn't that what your vet thought it was when you first called him? Was that from millet sprays, or something else?

And that caused the blockage too? Or are these two separate issues? Glad it is treatable!! Go little Pippin!

Yep, it was from millet sprays and yep, it caused the blockage as the muscle spasmed around the bit he had eaten. I would like to say that these sprays were darker than usual - the vet said they were old. Pippin and Spike love their millet sprays but have not had any for a number of days now. I will wait until the fresh ones show up. The vet was right first up - and that diagnosis was done over the phone. He is doing well today - talking to me "gotta kiss" (which drives Shah insane) and a little brighter. Pick up the meds tomorrow.
I would just like to add how important it is to get support from this forum. Most of my friends don't understand about the birds and cant understand why I spend so much money on them. So to get the support and encouragement from this forum made me feel I wasn't alone. Thanks everyone, you helped me through some dark times recently.

Interesting. Alright, well I will make sure I am extra vigilant for unusual smells or colors in the millet spray we use in the future. Really glad to hear he continues to do well.
And also happy this little forum has helped so much. Us bird folks need each other!

Are you seeing improvement with Pippin yet? I assume you have his meds now.

Yes Easttex, he is getting better. He is eating a lot more and, shock/horror, he is actually eating vegetables which he hasn't eaten before. His diet is incredibly restricted at the moment. I took over another poo sample on Saturday - get the results tomorrow and we will know where to go to from there. How's Peppy?
