Holy smokes... Oscar's grooming has gone to extremes. He was on my arm the other day and it felt like he was just pulling my tiny hairs out of my arm as usual but the next day Holy smokes... I am missing pieces of skin for about 6 inches down my arm. It probably didn't hurt at the time cause I was a little numb... but boy oh boy... he sure gets carried away.
When I showed hubby he showed me his... lol... I didn't know Oscar was on his arm too (which is very rare) but his arm is worse than mine... and he wasn't numb like me... ha ha...
When I try to stop Oscar by covering the sores with my other hand... he gets really angry at me and will give me that growl... and I shake my finger and tell him "that's mine". (ouch does not work).
The underside of my chin feels like I should have whisker stubble... lol... so I pull my T shirt over my face when he sits with me in the evening now.
What a little monster. Does he really like the taste of flesh??? or is this still grooming??
Anybody else out there with missing pieces of skin... geezzzz??? Would they actually groom other birds this way?
And by the way... I am NOT allowed to groom him whatsoever.

Sounds like he is a bit over-enthusiastic. Sorry, but I had to laugh at your post. I can just imagine what your arm looks like. I only miss bits of skin when Shah bites me - which is very rare these days Can you wear something with long sleeves for a little while to deter him? They really are little monsters at times.

Cupcake will create wounds on my arm, and then prevent them from healing because she feels the scab is something that needs to be removed. She gets very obsessive about it. Typically she does this right where my short sleeves end, and I'm starting to get a ring of scars on my arm in that area I generally don't encourage any form of grooming behavior even if it is totally harmless because I feel like it can encourage this nonsense

I know exactly. Clyde removed a mole. Seriously. It's gone. This was a few years ago and boy, did it HURT. At the time I thought he'd only maimed me a bit and it would heal, but he's nothing if not thorough and it did not come back. Who needs a dermatologist? We have Quakers!

Ow, ow, ow when they attack the moles it is so incredibly painful... although I can't say Cupcake has ever fully REMOVED one... AGH!

I had a tiny cut on my elbow, which was enlarged to four times its original size, courtesy of Ralph, in his efforts to help make it better. And then there's the enlarged knuckle on my right hand, due to arthritis, that Ralph thinks he can remove for me. Our QPs sometimes go a little too far in trying to keep us looking our best.

In contrast, Rocky 'Too is gentleness itself when he finds something he thinks needs attention. I'm a drummer and sometimes in the heat of the moment, I whack my hand. I have a bruise on one finger from a drumstick whack and Rocky is quite concerned about it, but he very delicately probes it with his tongue and doesn't try to remove it. It's more like a "kiss it and make it better" thing. Thank goodness it's on my LEFT hand (Clyde thinks left hand is EVIL and only right hand worthy of his attention) or Clyde would try to remove the bruise. He keeps trying to remove a scar on my eyebrow that I've had since high school.

You guys have made me laugh... I guess my situation isn't that bad after all... removing arthritis, licking bruises, removing scars, and moles... whewww. They must be part vampire or something.

I love that "kiss and make it better" with Rocky... That is awesome. What a sweetie.

He really is. We had a rough start and there were many times we thought we'd have to surrender, but we got past it and now you'd have to pry him out of my cold dead fingers. He can still make our ears bleed when he wants to scream. And scream. And scream. But he doesn't do that very often. I tried telling Clyde that "Rocky never bites me!" and "ROCKY is a GOOD parrot!" and Clyde just doesn't care. He doesn't even care that Ralph is a Gentleman Parrot and makes all other Quakers look like slackers. (And it's not strictly true that Rocky never bites me, but when he does, he is trying to tell me to hurry up and get him back to his cage so he can poop on the paper and not on me or the floor, and you can hardly fault him for THAT. Besides, he pinches, he doesn't chomp.)

It's so great that you guys have figured things out with Rocky. So fantastic. Things seemed pretty grim there for a little bit!

Well, this is a first...an 'undesirable' something that Ralph does, but Bonnie doesn't. I never thought I'd see the day!

You guys have made me laugh... I guess my situation isn't that bad after all... removing arthritis, licking bruises, removing scars, and moles... whewww. They must be part vampire or something. Bonnie actually doesn't do any of this, so we are lucky! Sometimes her little claws feel sharp when she sits on my shoulder and if she pulls my hair too hard when nibbling/preening I say 'careful' or 'gentle' and she eases up. The worst thing she does is bite my husband (very deliberately), but even that seems to have decreased in the last couple of weeks, touch wood!
Vampire quakers...the mind boggles!
I have been watching 'Z Nation' on Syfy channel recently, which is VERY entertaining and makes me laugh a lot. They had zombie animals on there and I couldn't help but wonder what a zombie quaker parrot would look like - maybe something like Aaron's Halloween pumpkin carving (?).
At school last week the kids came dressed up and one boy came as a 'Zompire' (cross between zombie and vampire, I assume).

Vampire quakers look like regular quakers because that's what regular quakers ARE. LOL

Haha, the zombie quaker! Yes! I think my carving would be a good rendering for sure!
