Does your bird ever have nightmares? Once in a while, Skye will call out after he's been in bed for an hour or so. I go to uncover his cage and he comes right to me. I cuddle him for a while until he's comforted and ready to go back. Once, he stayed with me for the whole night.

I cared for a friend's Meyer's parrot in my home, and he got the night frights one night. I hadn't even heard of them before. I don't know which of us it was worse for. I'm sure he would have been happier in his own home with his own people to comfort him. I was convinced he was dying. Other than that, I'm not aware of any of mine having nightmares.

I'm not aware of Cupcake having had nightmares, but I have read about it happening to birds enough that I put a dimly lit night-light in her sleep room so she has some ambient light to get around if she gets scared and falls off a perch or something like that. I've never actually heard or seen any evidence that she had a nightmare, though. I do worry sometimes that I might not hear her if something happens while we are still awake and her door is closed... but I open it when we go to bed, so if she calls out in the middle of the night I should hear her.

Shah has never had any nightmares that I am aware of. I hear him quietly grumbling to himself from time to time in the early hours of the morning. The cockatiels do get night frights but I don't believe it is from dreams. It is worse when they are moulting. I also have a night light so they can get around at night if they need to.

I know Oscar had some type of night frights... and I presumed it was from dreams. It was about a year ago and the first time he called out ... it wasn't a warning call but more of a scare call. I got up with him two nights in a row to make sure things were okay... and they were... and he would go back to bed. The third and fourth night I never got up but I did call out to him that "it's okay Oscar"... and that seemed to be enough.
He has never done it since and I did find it very strange.

Once I put Mr P to bed, he doesnt wake up again until morning, unless you rattle a bag contain snacks, scrape your spoon against the dish for that last bit of ice cream, or close the refrigerator door too loudly.
I've never known him to have nightmares.
Daisy, on the other hand, cries out in her sleep fairly often and all I have to do is tell her it's ok, and she will go right back to sleep.

That's Mr P We live almost directly across the street from Legoland Florida. On the 4th of July, they put on a huge fireworks display. We can stand in our driveway and see the fireworks, and they are REALLY loud. Every year I worry about the noise disturbing Mr P. But no, he can sleep through BLASTING fireworks, but can hear the pantry door opening no matter how slowly and gently you open it. It IS all about food for him
