Gigi showed symptoms I won't describe of having intestinal worms, so I went to the pet store and told the clerk we needed worm meds. He presented me with a package of stuff and said she would "have to go outside a lot" after it took effect. Granted. The stuff kills the worms and her body will then reject the result. But nothing happened for a couple of days and I was thinking it didn't work. Then ... she developed diarrhea on Saturday and has had it ever since. Is still having it. I expected it to last a day, maybe two. We have wood floors and her overnight episodes are nasty but clean up more or less easily (she won't wake us up to tell us she needs to go out). However, we HAD an area rug in the living room which she's hit twice so it's outside and may have to be tossed. Does anybody have experience with this? How much longer can we expect her to have diarrhea? She had to sleep on the enclosed porch last night after we woke up at 3:30 a.m. to a huge mess that I also won't describe. It was cool but comfortable out there and didn't hurt anything but her feelings.

I would give her canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) to help solidify her stool. Just a couple tablespoons, maybe twice daily.

All I can suggest is for you to call your vet and ask him what to do. Even the vet nurse might be able to help if you cant speak to the vet.

She's finally over it. The meds were supposed to clean her out to remove all the worms and they certainly did. She's been eating and drinking normally, maybe drinking just a little more than usual, but seems fine this morning. I knew about pumpkin but had forgotten, Dani. It's been a while since we had a sick puppy dawg and that worked last time. I should just keep a can of it in the house.
The good news, besides that the worms are gone and that Jack didn't catch it, is that the living room rug, which I was tired of but Hubby liked, has pretty effectively been ruined so we had to take it out. LOL It's an area rug, not carpet. I like the look of bare floor and it's so much easier to keep clean. So ... thanks, Gigi! :-)

Bilbo ate too much of a bone yesterday, so he got his dose of pumpkin today, too.
