Sleeping pills can help a lot. I've used Ambien a fair amount over the years and it can be a godsend, and doesn't have too much of an impact on the next day. I don't like taking meds either, but chronic insomnia is paralyzing...

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will be seeing the doctor shortly so will mention it to her. I have taken Stilnox but think it is off the market now due to problems with it - I never had any issue with it. I was wracking my brain this morning trying to figure out why Shah is screaming so much. Then it dawned on me - he always helped me organise the birdy breakfasts and I wasnt doing this with him anymore because of his hot breakfast. So I got him to help me this morning and guess what - no screaming. He saw the vet today. He is very happy with Shah - he says he is very calm - not a word I would associate with Shah. Even the vet nurse mentioned how calm he was. Anyway, he is having cultures done and has had blood taken so we will know the results on Monday. The vet will also work out a treatment plan for him going forward once the results come through. He also told me not to change his routine (I told him about the screaming) so I am hoping that things will work out when we get back to the "old" routine. He has had a bath today and we sat in the sun until he dried out. He is now having an afternoon nap, poor baby, he is absolutely exhausted

I don't know if this helps, but I tried a product called "Sleep" by Swisse and it helped a bit (all natural, I'm told). If I'm really desperate I have Phenergan 10mg, which also helps hayfever; it also comes in 25mg strength but that makes me dopey (well, MORE dopey!) in the morning, so I had to stop that one.
Isn't it amazing how such a small change in a bird's life can result in screaming & behavioural issues? Glad you figured it out. It sounds like Shah is doing very well.

That's great news, Jan! Now you need to take care of yourself. By the way, we had some neighbors over last night and he was telling us that his elderly mother at one time had as many as 17 Pomeranians in the house, none of them well housebroken. Little wonder few want to visit her in her home.

Shah has stopped most of his screaming now. We are back to the old routine and he is happy with being involved in what I do. Emma has been good today - no little messages in the rumpus room. She couldn't come with me today so I was expecting trouble but it came to nothing. I will sleep well today as I have been doing a lot of physical stuff today so that should knock me out for at least 5-6 hours. I will post about that tomorrow as I need Dani to load some photos for me.

Really glad to hear that Shah has been screaming less! Cupcake has been pretty grumpy today. I just gave her a very thorough shower to try to chill her out. Hopefully that works.
Phenergan has worked for me as well, although typically I've used it for anti-nausea, which it is brilliant at. Beats the pants off drammamine.

Gosh, I wasnt really with it when I sent the last post. Anyway, managed a good 7 hours sleep last night and feeling great today. Shah has stopped screaming now he is back in routine. He yells (but it is not screaming) and I answer it with a whistle. The vet did say that when birds wake up they usually chatter a little bit before looking for food so Shah helps me with the birdy breakfast and we have a chat and kisses before he gets his first course. He was asleep this morning - he looked so cute in his happy hutch. I think he was pretty exhausted from the day before. He is asking "gotta kiss" quite a lot now.
