Up here in the northeastern U.S. where I live, we have the similar black-capped chickadee. Ralph can do an imitation of the dee-dee-dee-dee-dee call, and usually announces it first by saying "chickadee!" Of course, with his gruff voice, Ralph sounds like a chickadee with a head cold.
Taking a more charitable view of us Americans, one might say that we tend to forget-- or simply aren't aware-- that not every country in the world has the same wild birds that we see. Even different parts of the U.S. have different wild bird populations. The blue jay that we mentioned isn't found in the western U.S.
