Hello one and all. I finally made it back from my trip to China and yes... it was an amazing trip. Saw so many wonderful things and learned a lot about the Chinese culture.
When I picked up Oscar at the sitters it was priceless. He heard my voice and was just shaking and came to my finger and would not stop nibbling at my lips... it was wonderful. Being home again he is finally settling down. He constantly wanted to go outside and I think he was looking for those birds that were at the sitters. He was not allowed to be with them directly however, he did find his way down his cage and started up their cage before he was caught. lol... little smarty pants.
He is very noisy right now and I think he still wonders about those other birds.
Anyway.... it is good to be home and I am sure things will be normal soon. I loved the pictures that were posted... awesome stuff.
You know... there are very few birds in China. I saw only two that were the size of a crow but were black and white. There are no bugs either. Guess that is why there are no birds around.
Have a wonderful day.

Welcome back. Must have been a great feeling knowing that Oscar remembered you and was actually pleased to see you. Glad you enjoyed your time in China.

Welcome back! That must have been an interesting trip. Seems odd that there aren't many birds to be seen in China-- I'm so used to the big variety of wild birds around here, and I don't think I'd like living where there aren't a lot of birds around. Not that I expect to ever live in China, and probably won't get to travel there as you did. Not without Ralph anyway.

Welcome back! China would definitely be an interesting place to visit, but I agree with Gary, I would find the lack of birds unsettling. I'm glad your reunion with Oscar went so well. I'm sure he is a very happy boy.

Welcome back, Julianna! I'll bet it was a fascinating trip, but wonderful to get home to that enthusiastic greeting. I'm in the middle of a credit card dispute with a company in China. My husband thought he was buying a Barbour jacket, and, of course, received a counterfeit. Oh well, I'll bet it's still a fascinating place. But no birds? Sounds a little barren.

Yeah... the no birds was very unsettling. My only theory would be that the pollution killed off the bugs and the birds who require them to survive left... or... somebody ate them. I did see cooked pigeon for sale and many other very offense foods. That part truly broke my heart.
Counterfeit is widely spread there. I could have bought a rolex watch for $1.00... lol
Thanks for the warm greetings.

Yeah, I was thinking the lack of birds might be a product of pollution. That's scary. And eating pigeons is sad. Frankly, eating birds in general is sad. I am having more and more trouble eating chicken these days. My wife has already given up eating all birds entirely. I think the way they are treated is the worst part though. Cows and pigs are super cool animals too, though... so I see vegetarianism in my future. I'm still looking for my friend named "willpower"... he's been avoiding me.

Hi Julianna, your suspicions on why there are very few birds may be correct. There have been some articles in our newspapers about cats and dogs being used as food - truly distressing. Once I move next year, I will be living by myself which means I will have complete control of my diet and will probably go vegan. With all the reports of the cruelty animals are suffering in abbattoirs I cant justify eating meat for much longer.

You go, Jan! I haven't had meat for over 20 years and do not miss it one bit. I was always kind of queasy about it, though, even as a kid. Have not quite managed vegan. In fact, I wasn't quite the vegetarian I thought I was for many years. Turns out that cheese that lists the ingredients "rennet" or "enzymes" without specifying that they are from non-animal sources actually use as a coagulant something that is a by-product of veal production. Turned my stomach to learn that.
