Are you crazy Aaron - take away his hutch? I would be in the hospital for serious blood loss due to quaker frenzy attack Shah is one of those quakers who doesnt like any change so I keep things as they are. He goes hysterical if I move things around and, due to the fact that he is a mutilator, I avoid any changes in his cage - or very small changes - which may or may not be accepted He sleeps in his hutch (never poops in it)and sometimes takes food into it for a midnight snack. It is such a big part of his life that I wouldnt want to take it away from him. Besides he holds on to it and the side of the cage to scream abuse at Pippin and Spike

Or being called Monkey Breath in front of people I wish Bonnie would talk in front of other people. She turns into a stuffed animal or screaming banshee whenever we have a visitor. Even "Monkey Breath" would be something - at least better than telling people she can talk and have them gaze at the screeching little hussy, then sceptically at us. Frankly, it's embarrassing.
By the way, Jan, what do your visitors say when Shah calls you "Monkey Breath"? Can they understand what he's saying?

They go "what did he just say?" cos they don't believe their ears. It is very clear. He was yelling at Pippin yesterday and then I heard him say Monkey Breath - so the name must apply to Pippin as well although Shah can say his name.

I just know how much worse Cupcake is when she has any sort of nest-like thing that she can access. That's the only reason I asked. I agree, it sounds like taking it away would be a bad idea for numerous reasons.

I agree with you Aaron that the best thing to do is to take away the hutch but I just cant risk it - he mutilates at the slightest upset and it takes at least 3 months for him to stop doing it and let the skin heal. He is a little horror at times. I am getting beak bashed and yelled at frequently these days - not sure why but I think it has something to do with me talking to the cockatiels when I clean out their cage and give them breakfast or supper. He just hates Pippin and Pips is just the sweetest cockatiel - all he wants is head scratches and I have to sneak some in when His Royal Highness isn't looking - but I think he knows there is something going on

Yeah, if it were me I would leave the hutch alone too. Shah is certainly a challenge, Jan. That is for sure.
