I didn't realize that people took birds as small as Quakers into the shower. Interesting! Our Quaker originally enjoyed baths. Here's a video of him taking one of his first baths: Gaudi takes a bath However, as I just wrote about in my introduction post Gaudi is now blind and no longer takes baths. Instead, he prefers to be sprayed down.

Cupcake definitely likes being in the shower on her shower perch, but not in the path of the water. She tolerates me showering her, but lately I've had to force it on her. She's not freaking out or anything while I do it, but if she had her way it would not happen. That said, when she does not get showered once a week, she seems to get progressively grumpier, even if she is taking traditional baths in her pyrex glass dish. She had started to get really grumpy again a few days ago in spite of the Mozart/Bach that now plays incessantly in the background, and I gave her the first shower she had taken in a few weeks, because I had decided to try not forcing it on her... and once she had showered her behavior immediately changed and has been good since. But she did not go willingly. I still think she enjoys it even if she doesn't voluntarily go in. She sure looks happy when I'm singing to her

Jade absolutely LOVES baths. She wants me to spray her (not mist above her, spray HER) until she is absolutely dripping and then she goes and takes a bath in the dish to boot. Clyde, on the other hand, takes a bath only when HE feels it's necessary, and then barely gets his tummy wet. He's a dirty bird.

My previous Quaker, Mick, died suddenly in January. I also called him my little green chicken. He picked up on the "chicken" part of the phrase and began saying "Hello Chicky" when I walked into the room, which was adorable. His way of demanding a bath was to poop in his water bowl. I'd have to change the water and he'd come along for the ride and climb down my shirt into the sink. He'd pull that stunt about once per month.
My new baby, Remy, that I got within a week of (his/her) weaning, is an absolute nutcase in the tubby. I fill the bathroom sink with warm water and he peeps and chirps the whole time I'm getting it ready. I set him in there and suddenly, it's like a wild bird in a puddle. Water is flapping everywhere. When he stops with the flappies, I offer my finger and he hops right up. This happens every third day. If I offer more frequently, he just stands there in the water, chirping until I pick him up. I'm really impressed with this little bird. I've only had him a month & a half and already he mimics 4 different whistles, makes the kiss noise when I say "Gimme Kiss" and now he's started to say something that I can't quite make out, but the cadence of it is exactly how I say, "What are you doing?" If it's only my husband at home, he'll chatter quietly to himself. But as soon as I walk in the door, before he can even see me, he starts wolf-whistling loudly until I go greet him. I think that's become his "word" for me, it's the first whistle I taught him. He's been a little beaky with me lately, I discourage it, but I hope this phase passes soon. He has a ton of toys and plays with all of them and he's even managed to break a couple. That keeps his beak busy not chewing on me.

Hi Melanie and welcome. Remy does sound gorgeous! We can't call Bonnie a little green chicken - and little blue chicken doesn't have quite the same ring to it...

Welcome Melanie and Remy! We call our QP Cupcake a "little green chicken" as well. It really suits them
