Just a while ago I was going to the patio doors in the kitchen and I heard a huge crash against my window. The window rattled so it was really hard. I jumped and thought... omg... another bird has hit the glass. I looked down to see if it was still alive and what I saw was a red tailed hawk with a black bird in it's grip. Wow... I wonder if they both hit the glass or just the black bird trying to get away. I think it was both of them because the feathers that are stuck on the window are not solid black. The hawk was on the lawn with the black bird in it's claws.... he looked up at me... and flew away with his catch. What a site.... poor black bird... but the hawk has to eat as well.
I am going to have to keep a keen eye open when I take Oscar out for sure.

Ugh. I'm glad I didn't see it. We have lots of hawks around, accipiters especially, who take lots of small birds. I know they have to eat and feed babies, too, but I try to discourage them from treating my feeders like their all-you-can-eat buffets.

I'm glad I didn't see it, too. We don't have hawks in our area, but most of the native birds where we live have been driven out by the aggressive mynah birds and the magpies. Yes, you must be very careful of cute Oscar if you take him outside (I assume he's in a cage).

I saw something like this just the other day. We have tons of different kinds of birds of prey in the area. I see hawks coasting around all the time when I look out the conference room windows at my office. They are quite majestic... but vicious. Stay away from my Cupcake!
