Rocky wants to be covered early, like 7:30 ish. We don't go to bed that early. Even the other birds don't go to bed that early. And neither does he. He sits under his cover and talks to us (he talks without being covered, but not as much). And around 9:30 or so, he comes down and peeks at us under the cover and says "hewwwooooh." We say "hello" back and after he's made it clear that we should go to bed now, he vanishes again and starts grinding his beak.

It's even funnier when he appears upside down, which he often does. He's sitting under his sheet saying "whatcha doin'" and "I wuv ooo" and "Hi, Rocky" and "it's a DOG" and then pokes his head out upside down with "hewooooh!"

He's still awfully nervous and jumps even at familiar sounds if they're sudden. Our old Lab, Gigi, is arthritic and has great difficulty getting up and lying back down and it sounds like an elephant playing a drum solo sometimes, which makes him jump even if he's looking at her and KNOWS it's her making the noise. If he's sitting on me when he's startled, he grips tight with his feet, so I have all these scratches and dents in my arms that make it look like I went a few rounds with a rosebush. Hubby thinks that Rocky is so certain that we're only a temporary home, because he has never stayed very long anywhere, that he's expecting any day to be stuffed into a carrier and carted off to a new household, so he can't relax and settle in. I think that may be part of why he doesn't want to go out of sight of his cage, too. He wants to make sure we're not loading it up in the truck to take it somewhere else. But he's getting a little better every day and he has SUCH a personality. We keep assuring him he's home to stay.

Oh, that's so sad! Poor baby! Hopefully he'll soon realize that he's not going anywhere else.

The way he leans out from his cage for me to pick him up and then snuggles into me and kind of sighs and makes these little sounds would make you wonder how anyone could have let him go. When I kiss his cheek, he closes his eyes.

What a sweet bird! I'm so happy he's found such a great home. I wonder how long it will take for him to internalize that he's home for good. Poor guy has had a tough life.
