I sit in my chair in the birds' room in the evenings and generally, Clyde is on my right hand, Benjy on my left, Maggie on the back of my chair, Greta on my leg, Freddie and Johnny are tearing up newspaper in somebody's cage (not necessarily one of theirs) and Jade is on her cage. She has taken to flying to my shoulder more and more and the other night, she flew to my shoulder while I was watching Opie and the snails and just sat there so nicely that I thought she was Clyde and turned to kiss her before I realized it was Jade. She sometimes flies over to Maggie's cage, next to my chair, and sits there for a minute or two. But tonight she flew over and landed on my knee. Clyde happened to be on my leg, too (he'd been playing with my shoelaces; I had my feet on a footstool) and they had quite the standoff because she was between me and him. She stood her ground for a while, and I thought she was going to back him down, but she finally flew back to her cage. Landing on my knee, like the others do, and sitting there at all is a brand new thing for her.

That's pretty impressive. So, can we expect as dust up between Clyde and Jade in the not too distant future?

Probably not. She defers to him as Chief Bird in Charge. However, the fact that she defied him at all is amazing. LOL I think she didn't realize he was playing with my shoelaces until she landed on my leg and he confronted her. I believe she just flew over to be sociable.

How do you keep up with the poop?

I clean cages daily, sweep and mop every other day, do a big clean periodically, keep a paper towel handy for poops that land on me and just do the best I can. LOL

Blimey, it's hard enough to keep up with poop from just one quaker! I'm full of admiration. Bonnie seems to know when we are wearing freshly washed and ironed clothes...she poops in the spot most difficult to clean, then makes little laughing noises.

If you think Quakers poop a lot, you should meet my pigeon and my starling, who compete daily to see who can poop the most. At least Ringo (the starling) poops in predictable places and often manages to hit her newspaper (which I have under her cage, in her cage, behind the door, under the window sill ...) while Maggie seems to delight in surprising Mama with poops here, there and everywhere. My dressing room is the same as Ringo's room, so she has to stay in her cage until I'm ready for work and headed out of the door, because as soon as I open her cage, she heads straight for me and I don't want to go to work with a poopy on my shoulder or in my hair.

Maggie seems to delight in surprising Mama with poops here, there and everywhere. You need to provide Maggie with a freshly-washed car-- a sure-fire target for any pigeon. I'll bet she'd hit it every time. It's always good to hear that Jade has made some new progress.

How do you keep up with the poop? Our guys are pretty good about the pooping. Otey likes to walk out to the end of his "porch" & do his business on a handy sheet of newspaper I put on the floor just for that purpose. Aldo generally does his business in one corner of his cage. Lovey, on the other hand...sigh....she'll hit my laptop screen, the window sill, the tops of the curtains, pretty much anywhere she lands & gets excited. Buddy, the parakeet, has just started venturing out of the big flight cage, so I haven't really noticed him going anywhere in particular. Hubby complains a little, but more about Lovey's propensity to shred paper. Hubby will also shroud himself with a big beach towel when he gets Aldo out (his quaker), but that's because Aldo gets very affectionate & likes to groom Daddy's short hairs on his neck. Daddy yells "ouch" a lot, but Aldo doesn't seem to mind. Aldo just says "stop it" & keeps grooming. All our birds are in the bedroom, so they're only out of their cages under supervision. If the dogs are in, the birds are locked up. They do get at least an hour out-of-cage most days, & that seems to be about their limit. After their playtime, they're ready to get back in their cages for a nappy. We'll also let them out for a little while the evening news is on TV. As soon as it's 8 pm, they start yelling for bed. They definitely like their routine. Siobhan, Jade sounds like Lovey & Buddy. Since Otey & Aldo have started flying tandem, the little guys think they need to get into the action as well. Lovey just comes over because she's nosey, but Buddy had been abused & wouldn't leave his cage for the longest time. Now he's beginning to join the flock, too. So glad they're all starting to bond with each other. Still the odd beak fight & sore toes, though.

Bonnie sounds the same as Lovey. Poop goes down my laptop screen on a regular basis. Oh, that reminds me, anyone else had their QP lever the keys off the laptop? Bonnie prised off 5 keys while I wasn't looking (in about 10 seconds). I tried to stick them back on but she has somehow pulled off the backing and they are just loose and sticking up at odd angles. Unfortunately one of them is the Delete key, which I use a lot and now doesn't work very well...I have started calling her 'Spawn of Satan'
