Aaron is right on target-- 'Toos typically are friendly with almost anyone, but will usually choose one special, favorite person, and they'll want to attach themselves permanently to that person.

I seem to be Rocky's person already. Mind you, I adore my little birds beyond reason, but there's almost a human look in Rocky's eyes.

I've always said that there is nothing like being the object of a bird's affection. I think you'll enjoy being the center of a sweet-natured bird's universe, but you'll still love the others just as much. You're clearly someone who appreciates them for who they are as individuals.

I hope he stays sweet. He won't step up for my husband and tolerates him, but that's about it. I suspect the past mistreatment came from a man or men and he's suspicious of men. Bill's going to have to work hard to overcome that.

Man... the look in a 'too's eyes is pretty mindblowing. I agree it is almost human. It breaks my heart every time I hang out with a 'too and then have to leave it at the store, waiting for the next random person to come give it some attention. They can be so incredibly affectionate. It's crazy.
My impression is that when mentally healthy, they definitely have the potential to stay sweet indefinitely.

My friend who was part of the rescue came by to visit Rocky today and told me more about what the people had told her. They used a spray bottle for punishment when he squawked. So no misting, at least for a while. He's terrified of things that look like sticks. He let me sweep nearby without freaking out, but he wasn't comfortable and he didn't like the vacuum, either. He has separation anxiety, understandably. The man of the house is a drunk, so my guess is he's a mean drunk and that's why Rocky is mistrustful of men. Apparently that man is about the same size and build as my husband, who is trying to make friends, but Rocky is suspicious.

Thank goodness Rocky is with you now. Poor guy, having had to be owned by someone like that...

I'm not usually one to argue for more regulations in daily life, but the idea that any old schmoe can get their hands on these sensitive creatures is just not right.

The poor baby asks so meekly to step up and then snuggles against me and lays his head on my chest like a tired child. I stroke and kiss and he makes these soft little sounds. Then he'll raise his head and just lean against me and talk to me quietly. I don't understand a lot of what he says, but one thing is "My name is Rocky Road" and he can say "Hello" and "Hi, Rocky!" and "Whatcha doin'?" and "It's a DOG" (which is the first thing he said when he saw our Jack, LOL)and "I love you" and lots of stuff I don't understand. I cleaned his cage today but I didn't do as thorough a scrubbing as I'd have like to. He was very confused, though he didn't exactly object, I could tell it made him uneasy. By the state it's in, he's probably never seen anyone scrub it before. He's very reluctant to step back on his cage once he's on my arm and he weighs a LOT so my arm gets tired and I can't go sit down because he doesn't want to be out of reach of his cage.
