Hello back finally..! Thank you so much to all of you again for being so welcoming and supportive. I was really a bit freaking out before picking up our baby bird or better, the One That Owns Us now and it was so helpful to be able to read about your experiences.
By now, almost 3 weeks after getting him, Pollux, seems to really have settled in very well. He is flying around freely whenever I and/or my husband are home, he steps up (when he's not completely naughty) and follows me everywhere now, keeps landing on my arm/shoulder/back. We spend every evening together and he seems pretty content-loves to play and snuggle- and find new things to DESTROY..-Thanks for the tip re morning good bye and coming home fussing- I think he appreciates it.
Pollux and Lavinius the skink have met each other as well. They definitely know about each other's presence. Pollux was freaked out at first, craning his neck with big eyes and all thin- the skink also seemed to be somewhat alarmed regarding his territory (incl. his humans)-is definitely maintaining a significantly stronger presence. The bird is only out in the same room as the skink when I'm there as well. About twice they met close up- no one showed any aggression, at least yet. I think I have made a very strong point that the skink is boss by demonstrating that he is allowed to climb and sit on my head- whereas Pollux can sit anywhere but there..-I think that was noted by both.
Thanks also for mentioning and looking up stuff about salmonella carried by reptiles, easttex & aaron! Although I don't think Lavinius is likely to have salmonella because I do regularly give him a smooch on his head -and have done that for the last 10 years without getting anything-and he doesn't eat raw meat from small mammals, I will definitely disinfect hands each time I have handled him- doing that before handling him or any other animal, anyway.
Pollux has completely conquered me and my hubby...-he is soo cuddly/sweet/smart/naughty/devilishly cute/dodgy/.....!
