So I got a new toy for Skye...a very nice one (I thought), with colored wooden propeller things and wooden beads. I thought he'd love it..fun to chew and spin the propeller thingys. Well, when I put him in his cage with the new toy he freaked....cried and clung to the front of the cage. I took him out and removed the offensive monster, then cuddled him and apologized profusely.
Who knew?

Just introduce it slowly. You play with it first and make out like it is the best thing in the world. He will get curious and want to see what you are up to. Unfortunately, this does not work for Shah - he hates everything I touch unless it is him

Peppy is pretty adaptable with new things, but I try to let him see stuff outside his cage before putting it inside. With Allie CAG the process can take months, and there are some things she never does accept.

Yeah, going straight to putting inside the cage may feel a little invasive to the bird. He did not invite that monstrosity into his abode, so why is it there?! As Jan said, going slowly and playing with the toy yourself in front of Skye will probably help. Our idea of a fun toy and their idea of a fun toy can differ a lot. I buy all kinds of fancy and expensive toys for Cupcake and the ones that consistently get the most use are the $1.00 wicker foot toys that she can hold in her foot and tear apart. She gets more enjoyment out of those than any of the $15 multicolored doodads I've gotten for her.
