We're Otey's People, although the flock has increased considerably recently.
Just the Hubby & myself at home. Hubby is a university librarian, but I'm semi-retired, which means I don't have time for a job between remodeling the house, reconfiguring the yard & gardens, and tending to all the critters. We live up in the mountains in southwestern Virginia.
Fids include two quakers--Otey & Aldo, one little fishwife of a lovebird named Lovey, and a newly adopted blue parakeet originally named Budgie. We took care of that last part.
Other critters are two mostly outside dogs named Gabby & Toby. Gabby looks like a small, skinny Mastiff, & Toby is a short haired collie mix. No cats. Like cats, just hate litter boxes.
Also have inadvertently become the local rabbit rescue. I'm afraid to count how many we have right now, but we're rehoming them as fast as we can. We don't eat rabbits, even though I raise New Zealands. I also have a few Holland Lops & just got 3 Mini Rex, including a lovely little doe named Bambi.
We're down to 4 hens--Big Edie, Paloma, Little Brown & Little Red. We're hoping to get a few more as Big Edie & Paloma are almost 5 & don't lay very often. They're Blue Rangers, & impossible to find around here. The brown & red hens are Red Stars, so they lay almost every day. We don't eat the hens either. Pretty much everything here dies of old age.
Then there are the goldfish. They're kept outside in the rain barrels to keep the mosquito larvae down. They're the cheapie ones from PetSmart, so sometimes they survive & sometimes they don't. I do have 4 that have gone thru a couple of winters though. Those have earned names.
Last but not least, we had Grandchild #35 in April and #36 in June. Thank God they all live west of the Mississippi. Gives us a nice excuse to travel. Plus with the magic of technology, we're in touch about every day anyway.
So glad to be on the new board. How about other old timers chipping in?
