So,I have been noticing that Sonic looks like he is starting to recognize his name. I have never had a bird that recognized their name. Am I crazy? Do they recognize their names like say, a dog or cat? Have you guys noticed this also?

Yep, Shah recognises his name - he also recognises that when I call him Sharni, I am pretty upset with him. Shah can also say his name and thinks he is pretty fabo when he does. They are smart little monsters.

An affirmative here, too. Bonnie knows her name and used to come when called (until she entered her 'rebellious' phase...).

Mr P DEFINITELY knows his name..except...I have to admit, at home, we do not call him "Mr P", we call him Piggy. So, if I start saying Piggy piggy piggy he gets all excited and replies with "do_u_wanna yummy? "

Cupcake definitely knows her name. She always looks up immediately when she hears it. I think she would be more responsive to it if we didn't have a million other names we call her as well, but she definitely knows it. She will often come when called, but somewhat along the lines of Bonnie, only when she feels like it. Yes, and with my iPhone as well. I usually just delete one of them.

Oscar knows his name however, that does not mean he will respond to it all the time. Usually when he wants something he will pay more attention lol.

Mine not only know their own names, they know the others' names. So they know when I am addressing them and when I am speaking to one of the others. This is why when I speak to one of the other birds and Clyde is in a mood, he chomps me for speaking to another bird, even if he is sitting on my hand getting all the actual attention. In the other bird room, where Ringo reigns, she even knows the lizard's name. When I speak to the lizard, she zooms over to his tank and parks her little self on top of it expectantly because my speaking to him often means I'm going to feed him, and she wants some of his meal worms.

Ralph knows what his name is-- and he also responds to "Quaker parrot," or "little parrot." He also recognizes my brother's name.

Clyde also answers to "Poozy" or "Pooh" and Maggie is "Marguerite" (that's her formal name)and sometimes "Meg." I'm working on getting Ringo to say her name when I ask "who's my baby?" and occasionally she even does. Though I suspect that's accidental. She's not big on call and answer like Clyde is. He just loves to say or whistle things for me to repeat and he's quite pleased with how well he's taught me to talk, while Ringo just chatters and doesn't care if I'm paying attention or not, or whether I answer or not.

Peppy responds to his name. I changed my grey's name. She was Einstein when I got her, and I just didn't care for it. She didn't seem to have any trouble with the transition.

He is certainly making loads of progress. Working on flight recall just by calling his name, he says hello,peak-a-boo, and a few other words that I have figured out yet.

Clyde was a stray, so we had no idea what his former name was, and he picked right up on "Clyde." We did know Jade's name and if we hadn't, she was more than willing to tell us over and over ... and over and over ... LOL Johnny was "Snowball" (UGH) but when I changed it to Johnny, he was confused for maybe part of one day. Freddie didn't have a name until I gave him one and neither did Benjy. Even Maggie who, admittedly, is not the sharpest knife in the drawer (a dear, sweet, affectionate pidge but not real smart) and who was "Magic" (ugh again) until I changed it, got used to her new name quickly. I tried to pick a name that sounded enough like her old one that it wouldn't be difficult for her to get used to it.
The trick is to use the name all the time. Constantly. "How's Clyde today? Hey, Clyde. Good morning, Clyde! Mommy loves Clyde. Is Clyde hungry? Does Clyde want to come out?" and so on. Knowing Quakers, that won't mean that he will RESPOND to it as you'd like, because they are stubborn and have minds of their own, but he will know what his name is even if he pretends he does not.
