I think the mites caused a lot, if not all, of his problems. He's been sitting on his perches more, though he does still sit on the bottom of his cage.
We still have one more dose of Ivermectin, and we still have to treat the house (I'm getting it clean before we bug bomb it).

So, something new presented itself last night. Zach and I think that Pico may be blind, or have a vision impairment of some sort.
Every night Chewy and Pico get an almond. Last night, Pico couldn't find his. Zach was holding it right in front of him, but he had to feel for it, and it took awhile. He knew it was there, but apparently couldn't see it.
It would explain his unsteadiness, his flying into walls, his fear of taking baths, the fact that he chirps and chatters long after he's covered for the night, and his sudden lack of interest in his toy box.
We'll ask to have his eyes checked on Tuesday.

I'm pretty sure I just confirmed it.
He was sitting fluffed up in the corner of his cage and I opened his cage door and put my hand in. He was looking right at me, but didn't respond. I kept talking to him, and moving my hand closer. It completely startled him when I touched his head.

It very well could be a vitamin A deficiency. Color mutation Pacific Parrotlets can't have pellets, because they cause liver problems. So he's on a mostly seed diet, with frozen veggies and his nightly almond. I'm running out the door to buy some chard, kale and mustard greens to see which he likes best.

Wow... well at least you have a lead. Poor little guy. Going blind must be scary for him. I hope his vision issues prove to be curable!

I just handfed him some organic baby food carrots, because he does not look good, and I wanted to get some vitamin A into him immediately, not play a guessing game to see if he'll eat the greens or not...

I needn't have worried, though.....he likes all of them! LOL He's never been a picky eater.

Sorry to hear that about Pico but don't let it deter you. It will be a challenge but you will be able to cope with it. He is such a sweet little guy. You just have to make allowances for his eyesight. I don't know if it is reversible or not but please let us know how he goes at the vet. I often think that some animals are destined to be with specific people - like Trixie ending up with Siobhan. You are not having a good time are you?
