Last night and this afternoon Oscar spent a lot of time in his cupboard and guess what??? No cries of wolf yet. hmmmm maybe he knows that if he does this he will be removed from the area. Is it possible he learned quickly?.... after all he wants to stay there. Perhaps he is just waiting for the right moment.

I'll be interested to learn how this is working. It may actually be an ingenious solution - using a negative consequence in a positive way.

Trust me, he is way ahead of you & just re-evaluating...sorry if I've put a dampener on the situation!

No dampener at all biteybird. Things are working so far... no more wolf cries. And... if he does I will do the same thing. He really gets the message when I call danger... and runs to me very quickly. I only imagine that he does not know I am the one crying wolf too. lol
I love the opinions... cause most of the time you are correct.

Haha! I love this technique. Even if it only works temporarily, it's pretty brilliant. Can't wait to hear whether it continues to be effective.

Jade often gives the danger call and I always run, but I honestly think she's not doing it to cry wolf. I think there are things they get frightened about that we would never think of as scary. For example, Jade is terrified of scissors. I don't think I want to know why, but if she sees them, even if they're across the room and nobody's touching them, she freaks out. I have to have scissors in the room to open food containers. I try to keep them where she can't see them. She and Clyde are both afraid of the siphon I use to clean fish tanks, and the turkey baster I use on Belle's little tank (the regular siphon is overkill in that situation). Jade also gives the danger call when one of the others is doing something she doesn't think they should be doing, such as when Freddie gets on my mom's knick knack shelf. He invariably knocks something off. And of course, now that it's getting warmer and windows are open on nice days, bugs get in even in spite of screens and Jade does NOT like bugs. So I'm betting that there really is something Oscar is seeing that upsets him, and it might be something you'd never think was scary. Maybe once you come in, he gets over being scared because he figures you'll take care of it, or your presence makes him not be scared.

Bonnie has been insufferable for 3 days doing the alarm call every few seconds, from inside her locked cage. There's nothing we can see to account for it. I'm certain she somehow reads/knows what these forum posts are saying, just to stay one step ahead of us.

Biteybird, you are failing in your duty of care to Bonnie. There must be something wrong otherwise why would she call you to her? She would NEVER cry wolf just to see you acting like a jack in the box. Like you, I am convinced our quakers read this forum and behave accordingly. Little monsters

Actually Oscar has stopped with the danger calls and has now changed his tune. Took a while but if he wants to go into the face cloth drawer... danger calls are not going to get me in there. Now he call is more like... urgent ... but not danger. That is okay cause I will go in and check but I am sure it is just because he wants my company. I will put my hand in the drawer while he sits at the back... and then rub his head a little. As I am ready to leave... I will mess up the face cloths... and he will come diving out... ready to fix them back up to his liking... lol... quite the little game he has going.
I haven't heard wolf in a while now... whewwww.

Have you ever noticed that some of things that are so endearing in a bird would be like fingernails on a chalkboard if they came from a human? At least that's how it is with me.
