The babies are in the same tank with the adults. It's a 10-gallon. This weekend I just added some water (evaporation) instead of cleaning. They have two filter pumps because I was having difficulty with cloudy water and when the second pump fixed that, I decided to just leave it. How fast do platies grow? I could try just the turkey baster cleaning for now.

Hi, if the turkey baster if good with you, that's fine. I did 90 percent water changes every other day. You probably don't have the time to do that. I would at least do 50 percent every week. I would say 4 to 6 months to grow them out.

They have grown in the last week. Their colors are getting brighter. One looks just like one of the males and the other looks like the two females. She's a female, too, I think, and is bigger than the other. I may have had two batches and only these two survived. I'm going to try very careful cleaning tonight and a 50 percent water change.

They're terrific. They've gotten bold enough to hang out with the big fish and are zooming around all over the tank now. I cleaned the tank without incident, though I had to watch them closely -- they're as nosy about the siphon as the big fish -- and they eat like PIGS. LOL In keeping with the Harry Potter theme in that tank, I've named them Dumbledore and Sirius. The others are Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville. Hermione and Neville are the girls. I'm pretty sure Dumbledore is a boy and Sirius is a girl but they're still a little small to be sure.
