For a while, Ralph wanted to sit on that bookshelf every time he came out to play. Never any other bookshelf, just the one with most of my Sherlock Holmes books on it. Sherlock would be a good name for a parrot. Maybe if there were two parrots, they could be Holmes and Watson. I also thought of Hercule Parrot as a sort of humorous name for an inquisitive and intelligent parrot.
I have the painting of Ralph on the bookshelf hanging in the living room, and below it is a framed photograph of George. Ralph used to like to look at George's picture but when I pointed out "the picture of you" to him, he would bite me. I guess Ralph was an art critic, or maybe to him the picture was just a jumble of colors and he was insulted to think that was supposed to look like him. I honestly think both pictures would have turned out better if I had painted them with oils.

Hercule Parrot would be a great name for a nosy Quaker parakeet! I haven’t gotten to name a bird in many years—it would be fun but my new birds have needed a home.
I think that my parrots can sometimes understand photos, but unless a painting is photorealistic or maybe has their flash colors or signal colors, the bird might not ‘get’ what it is supposed to be. I believe Jasper definitely can tell that a video parrot represents a parrot. Willow is usually interested in getting pet and not watching videos, so I’m not sure what he thinks.

All three of my parrots were already named when I got them and they knew their names. I made a few attempts to change Scooter's name, but she always corrected me by saying "Hey, Scooter!" after I called her something else (other than"funny gray parrot," which I sometimes called her). If I ever get a parrot that's not a rehomed parrot already named, for the first time I'll have to decide on a name. That could be challenging. I can think of some good possibilities, but they won't necessarily fit the parrot's personality.

I thought I should put up a picture of one of Ralph's arrangements of some spoons that he removed from the silverware drawer:

That looks a lot like one of Lucy’s stick arches. I think Lucy used tension to tell if her sticks were in the right place.
It sounds like Ralph had quite a contented life, exploring your kitchen. I’m trying to make Willow’s experiences a bit bigger, too. He was staring at an ammonite fossil on my nightstand. It is slightly opalized and just a bit shiny. I could tell he wanted something; wasn’t food or a drink or a pet, so I showed him the 2” diameter snail like fossil and he was VERY interested.. He’s usually scared of new objects but was ok with this and reached out with his beak and tongue to examine the shiny and rough spots.
Hearing about Ralph’s shelf and his explorations in your kitchen helped encourage me to gently try and expose my little chicken to more sights. So I’m really watching him to see what he might want to look at more closely.

I thought I had a better picture of what Ralph did with the spoons but I couldn't find it. Sometimes he would use the spice rack to prop up some spoons and weave more spoons among those.
I hope that Willow will discover lots of new things to have fun with. I just let Ralph explore and discover things that he found interesting. He really was curious about almost everything but not everything appealed to him as being worth playing with. I would carry Ralph around the apartment and he would point me in the direction he wanted to go and then show me which object caught his eye. It sounds like Willow did that with the fossil.

Here's another picture of Ralph, enjoying some popcorn on the towel bar in the bathroom:
