Anyone else having issues with this?
My 23 year old Quaker, Stuart, started with the left eye. But now his right eye is slowly starting to go.
Very heartbreaking to watch his sight decline. He still eats and drinks and gets around his cage okay. But his visual decline is quite noticeable these days.

Aww poor Stuart , I am sorry I’ve not got experience with a parrot with cataracts. Casey is only 16 and I’ve not noticed anything yet.

Our Bonnie is only 9, so we’re not in the same situation as you. But if Stuart seems happy & still eating, drinking & getting around OK I guess there’s not much you can do apart from keeping him comfortable and safe. Others may have some insights. Stuart sounds adorable. 🙂

Sorry that Stuart's vision is diminishing from the cataracts. I've never experienced that problem with any of my parrots. Some changes may have to be made in Stuart's environment to better accommodate him but I imagine he can continue to enjoy a good life.

My 29 year old Quaker has cataracts both eyes. He is basically blind. He gets around his cage fine. Just can't move anything in his cage.

I am almosts 42 years old and am in the early stages of Cataracts I don't notice any difference because my eyesight was always bad. My Quaker is 19. I wouldn't be surprised if that was in her future. I know parrots in general can develop them.

Cataracts are associated with age and exposure to uv light, as well as associated with some health disorders and genetic eye diseases. Almost everyone will get cataracts if they live long enough. Some people get them much earlier and those are pre senile cataracts.
