I have the flu. I've been sick since Thursday night but apparently the birds wanted to be certain I wasn't faking it, because it wasn't until today that I got any feathered sympathy. Finally, today Clyde has been sweet instead of demanding and even Jade sat on the boing above us and bobbed her head. Benjy let me kiss him without complaining -- much. Ringo has been sweet all along and today she helped me dry my hair and sat on my arm and leaned against me and gazed at me. I've only been doing the most necessary things like refilling water (Jade's a dunker and Freddie poops in his water) and making sure food dishes are full, but their room is a wreck and I'm going to have to gird up my loins and do something about it. It may take all evening doing a tiny bit at a time and resting a lot in between.

Well, it may have taken a while, but at least you're finally getting some sympathy and understanding from your flock. Hope you feel better soon and can get back to fulfilling your obligations in the bird room.

Hope you are feeling better soon. I had to have some tests at the hospital this morning and I was extremely upset and nervous. All I wanted was a kiss and a bit of a cuddle from His Royal Highness and he flat out refused. As I left he called out "Monkey Breath"

i took off my glasses to rub my eyes, which look like I've been punched in both of them, they're so puffy and irritated, and Clyde had a FIT. I'm not allowed to not wear my glasses.

That Clyde is a stern master, with very exacting standards, it seems. Honestly, for all their charms, I've never felt like I got all that much sympathy from animals when I've been sick or injured. I don't know if that is them or me, but if I fall down the stairs the dog just runs over to give me a good barking out. I hope you're back up to snuff soon. My theory is that housekeeping can wait, as long as everyone is fed and watered and conditions are not hazardous.

I think Easttex's dog says all that needs to be said about animals and sympathy:)

Turns out I have pneumonia and will be home the rest of the week. My doctor, bless her heart, gave me a note that it's "medically necessary" for me to be off work. So I don't have to drag my sick behind to the office until Monday and by then I will, I hope, be over this. The birds will be happy to have mama home all week, even if I'm not very lively.

Hope you feel better! I was sick all last week and am still sick now but can't take any more days off if I want my bonus at the end of the school year, LOL. At least your feathered buddies (and your doctor) understand!

Sorry that you are sick... Last time I was sick Oscar was pretty good at allowing me not to get up. That is when he decided to take the tye wraps and stick them all around my body... lol Guess he figured that if I don't help him with his house (and get up) then he will just bring the house to me.

Recently I have discovered that Cupcake will let me take naps if I put her in her cage and I move the cage so it is sitting really close to where I am lying down. If I leave her cage where it normally is, even if that's only like 10 feet further away, she won't be okay with it... but if she feels like we are napping together, even if she is in her cage, she is basically okay (she might make a few little quiet grumpy noises, but she isn't loud). Next time I am sick, this discovery will really be helpful I am sure... although I imagine if I were to take advantage of it too often she might start yelling at me... Heh.

Clyde is being pretty nice. He wants to pull on my hoodie ties and snuggle and pull my hair over my eyes but he's not being bratty and demanding. Jade sits on Maggie's cage and bobs her head a lot. Maggie's in egg-laying loop mode right now and is busy trying to make a nest in Benjy's cage, so at least I don't have to break up scuffles between her and Clyde when they disagree about what part of me is whose. My hand is Clyde's, always, but sometimes my shoulder is Clyde's and occasionally my lap is Clyde's, and when Maggie wants my shoulder or lap, we have Bird Wars.

Bird Wars...great next novel title. Hope you feel better soon. The flock might be grateful you are around 24/7 for now, but maybe not too impressed when you have to go back to work again(?).
