Well there's not much I can say. I went to pick up shampoo for the dog yesterday and was just having a quick look at the bettas. One in particular caught my eye. He followed my finger up and down his little tank and I was really tempted to get him. Still thinking about it. Welcome to Belle.

The clerk was helping me decide among the little girls and when I said to Belle, "Do you want to go home with me?" she zoomed over to the side of the cup and looked me right in the eye. That was THAT. The clerk said, "Aaaaand we have a match!" LOL She had been pointing out "this one's a pretty color" and so on but the color and the type of tail doesn't matter to me. What matters is do I connect with the fishie (or bird, or dog, or snail or whatever) and does the critter want to come home with me. She's still zooming around in her tank this morning. I think she's still amazed she has all that space and warm water and stuff all to her little self. That's one reason I keep buying bettas. It's gratifying to give them a nice home after they've been stuck in those cups, and they're always grateful. I love watching them explore and enjoy. Poor Freckles freaked out when I caught him in a cup yesterday to move him to his new tank (a net is too hard on their delicate fins) and even though he was only in the cup long enough for me to walk across the room and put him in his new tank, he was having a betta meltdown panic attack. I put my hand over the top because he was so agitated I was afraid he'd try to jump out.

I agree - the connection is the most important thing. Izzie never made the connection with me - she is trying to but there is something that stops her. I dont mind - I can wait forever if I need to - and if she never makes the connection, it doesnt matter. The most important thing is that she is safe and loved.

That's kind of where we are with Jade even after all these years. She'll only come to the edge and won't step over. But we love her and she knows it, and that will have to do.
