Nuts are a great treat -- just stick to unsalted ones of course. Cupcake loves almond slivers and bits of walnut. Cupcake also really loves these: www.goraw.com/p/61/super-simple-flax-snax -- I like them because they are simple, and organic, and have a good omega 6/omega 3 balance, and are also sprouted and raw so they should provide some decent nutrition. I break them into pieces and use them as treats periodically throughout the day.

Congratulations on your new guy! He is gorgeous! I wouldn't worry too much about his behavior right now. I've been reading up on bonding with birds and it just takes time and patience. They're not quite as adaptable as dogs are and you have to spend some time earning their trust. I have had Sammy exactly one week today, and for the first time today he snuggled up against my neck when he got scared. He also started giving kisses today. On the other hand, while he'll let me nuzzle his whole body with my nose, he still only lets me scratch his neck with my hands when he feels like it, probably because there are certain times when I have no choice but to pick him up off his play area after he refuses to step up or be lured off (unfortunately I can't call in late to work because my bird didn't want to go in his cage!). But I have no doubt that he'll get over it (seeing how happy he is when he does get scritches!). He just needs time. Be patient, care for him, and the love will come! Just think of him less like your average pet and more like a human being--he has to have time to really get to know you before he really trusts you, unlike a puppy who is all in after ten minutes!
