Hi, I just got my new green quaker about a month ago, he is only 4 months old, he is still on his formula,
He is starting to step up when we wants to. Loves being out on top of his cage,
I was wondering, when i take him on my shoulder away from his cage, say just 20 feet from it to the couch he has a fit and tries to fly back to his cage. He is still shaking a little and his heart beet goes up when i hold him,
what steps should i take to help train him for being held and away from his cage?
thanks for the help.

Welcome to the Forum! I'd suggest starting small and gradually moving farther away from your parrot's cage. Just walk maybe two feet away at first, and stay there a while. Then try three feet away, and each day, increase the distance from his cage, little by little. Work on it slowly, giving your QP a chance to adjust to moving farther away from his safe place-- his cage.

Welcome Herbi, after trying Gary's plan and gradually gaining your Quakers trust, I would then also try to take him to a different room from the cage for a few minutes at a time, if the cage isn't in sight, he might be more apt to want to stay with you. Good luck, you are going to have lots of fun with your little guy!

Those are the two things I was going to suggest, too. Good luck and welcome!! Let us know how you do!

thanks everyone.
He is stepping up now every time i tell him too. he also flew over to me on the couch today and spent a little time with me before he tried flying back to his cage.
I will keep working with him,
when he is on my shoulder he like to pick at my skin and shirt.
will keep you posted
