Man that looks cold. That is indeed one devoted parent. Birds have some serious heat efficiency. Feathers are so cool.

I watched a live eagle cam somewhere on the west coast as the chicks hatched, were reared, fledged and then left the nest. The parents are absolutely DEVOTED to their babies, both male and female. I remember getting so excited when the first one actually took flight, like they were my own kids

I remember getting so excited when the first one actually took flight, like they were my own kids I'm the same way about the broods that hatch around here, especially the bluebirds. I monitor several nest boxes on my property. Every year there are also chickadees, cardinals, and mockingbirds nesting close to the house, and I get really invested in them. Watching the bluebird babies leaving the box is a thrill every time I see it.

Holy crow... that is quite the dump of snow. I cannot wait for spring so that the birds come back here. There is usually two huge black birds (and I mean huge) that will raise their babies in the field behind my back yard. No matter how ugly they might be, it is still wonderful to watch them raise their young. Of course I always give them a little extra to eat. Like a can of tuna... lol These birds are meat eaters so I always keep a careful eye when Oscar is outside. I will give Oscar the warning call when I see them but for some reason Oscar does not think they are bad and will not call back with me like he usually does. I actually saw a woodpecker yesterday in my trees and that is unusual for me. I just hope it is a sign that spring is near.
