Here (Melbourne, Australia) last time I checked, we pay at least $65 for a budgie and about the same for a cockatiel.
My aviary canaries always seem to like sitting on a perch to sleep - on one leg, with head under wing. I haven't offered them anything like a happy hut. But they do love having horizontal flying space more than vertical flying space.
