Here (Melbourne, Australia) last time I checked, we pay at least $65 for a budgie and about the same for a cockatiel. My aviary canaries always seem to like sitting on a perch to sleep - on one leg, with head under wing. I haven't offered them anything like a happy hut. But they do love having horizontal flying space more than vertical flying space.

She hasn't gone into it as far as I know and she was all fluffed up to sleep on her favorite perch last night when I tucked them in. At least she's not afraid of it. She sat next to it and looked it over and was willing to come right over and see it as soon as I put it in, unlike the way most birds react to something new.

That's one thing you can always count on with canaries. They will always investigate new things without apparent fear when they are ready (even if they then decide they're not interested).
