As it appeared that the wound had healed I didnt put the ointment on his neck last night. At 2.30am he started biting the bars of the cage - at 3.10am I got him up and he snuggled into my neck to go to sleep. At 3.30am I took him into the other room to do some work on the computer and then went back to bed at 4am. He went straight back to bed in his cage. Between his bedtime (7pm) and 2.30am, he managed to have another go at his neck so the ointment is back on it. I think the skin might be a little dry and maybe irritating him. Just when there is light at the end of the tunnel, it goes out. However, I am now thinking of putting him into bed for about 30 mins at 7pm and getting him back up about 8pm. I go to bed around 10pm and that might work better for him.

So, it seems that he doesn't bite his neck when the ointment is on it. I guess you may need to put it on even if it looks like it's healing/healed for a while. Don't give up, we're all supporting you!

Thanks Biteybird. Fortunately our relationship has improved as I am spending extra time with him so I wont give up. I am enjoying our time together and he definitely appears to be happier.

I got the little devil out of the cage at 8.30pm last night (popped him into bed at 7pm). He did not like it one little bit. I explained why I had to remove him from the cage and he just grumbled back. It was hysterical. We carried on the conversation for 15 minutes. After 30 minutes he became agitated so put him back to bed where he slept through the night.

he just grumbled back. It was hysterical. They are funny when grumpy, aren't they? Does Shah make a noise like a seagull (that's the only way I can think to describe the sound) when she is unamused? That's what Bonnie does. Glad Shah got through the night OK.

I just get screamed at when he's grumpy. When he is happy he makes kissing sounds, purrs, does a very soft whistle and quacks like a duck (softly). I like the purring and duck sounds - they are just so cute. I usually hear them at bedtime when he is settling in and making sure I am still in the room as I make the sounds back to him. Got him up again at 8.30pm last night but he only lasted 15 minutes before he had a temper tantrum - however, he slept through the night. I have also cut out a lot of light that comes from the night light (for the cockatiels as they get night frights) so his cage is covered where the light seeps in.

He must have figured out that it's really RUDE to be woken from a nice sleep, and so decided to let you sleep. Or, maybe not.

The 15-minute timeframe seems to be his limit, then, before he 'cracks it' at you!

Well, he had better get used to it as it will be happening for the next few nights until he learns that he needs to sleep through the night. Of course I am fooling myself that he will learn this lesson

Shah's feathers are coming through and he appears to be leaving them alone. He has an occasional bite at his neck but it looks okay. I am hopeful he will make a full recovery (except for a bald patch on his neck) - until the next time At least we have lots of fun now and he supervises a lot of the things I do - which means temper bites from him if I am handling something he doesnt like. But I can put up with them if he is happy.

What a relief that there seems to be something you can do to help control it! Even if you can't always do exactly what Shah wants...
