That's a shame. Our health system is set up differently so if I want to go and see a specific specialist, you can - and still get cover for it through private health insurance. We also have public health - just means it takes longer to see people and you cant choose who you get to see. Anyway, as long as you see someone who will help is the most important thing.

Caffeine withdrawal headaches can be absurdly brutal. I've never had a migraine but I imagine it might be like that.

I just thought I would share my AMAZING news....I've been migraine-free for almost a month!! Yippeeee!!!!!
I started seeing a new doctor on March 3rd, and had a second appointment on the 12th. That day was a life-changer....
I was asking for my prescriptions to be refilled, and asked her for more Tramadol. She asked why, and I told her that I was taking that instead of the Naproxen, for my aches and pains, because Naproxen (and other NSAIDS) are really hard on your stomach. I had asked my previous doctor if this was okay, and she said yes. My new doctor was horrified, and said that Tramadol really should be classified as a narcotic and it is habit-forming, in addition to interacting with one of my migraine medicines.
As soon as I heard that I got pretty upset, and said "No, don't refill it!" I stopped taking it, cold-turkey, that day. I continued having headaches for a week afterward, but after that I haven't had one.
I'm SO happy!!!!

That's fantastic news. It often helps to seek out the advice of another doctor. It must be lovely being able to go out and not worry about getting a migraine.

That's great, Dani! Doesn't that describe the art of medicine, often. Take this for one thing, and it takes care of that, but now there is this symptom, so you take something for that, and now there is this symptom, etc. It seems like that sometimes, anyway. Glad you got to the bottom of it.

That is amazing news! Fantastic!
Tramadol is definitely a much more serious substance than your average NSAID. And it had weird side effects when I took it as well. Really glad you seem to have gotten to the bottom of this!

It just goes to show you that, although all (or most) of the doctors we see do genuinely want to help us, they don't always have the latest knowledge or check up adequately. Glad you're feeling a bit better!

Can't hurt to remember as well that while doctors tend to have good intentions (although I often feel many of them willfully keep their heads in the sand), much of the tools at their disposal are engineered by an industry that makes its' money off of us being sick and our need for ongoing treatment. There is little question that Big Pharma favors profit, and profit sustainability, over medical efficacy, in general.

I had migraines for years. They were horrid! I went to idk how many doctors, spent thousands trying to get them to stop and nothing. One day, I watched documentary on Netflix about nutrition and a doctor on there said, if you have migraines your body is telling you something, your missing something in your diet. It isn't asking you for another pill. He laid out a nutrition plan which I follow to this day. Haven't had a migraine since. I was also borderline diabetic and my cholesterol was very high, all this at the age of 25. Since on this eating plan the borderline diabetes and cholesterol have both corrected themselves. I'm on zero medication and all my blood work is perfect. There is certainly a place for medication. If we eat healthy foods and exercise that goes a long way in preventing a lot of these illnesses. I'm so glad they got you off of the pills. Most pills potential side effects are as bad or worse than the condition they treat. We talk on here a lot about nutrition for our FIDS, often we forget about how important diet is for our own health. We should come up with pellets for people, that would be much easier.... Lol, at least here in the U.S. our diets are mostly very poor. It's called the standard American diet, or S.A.D. for short. Sorry guys had to vent a bit today. Please, let's try to take as good of care of ourselves as we do our beloved FIDS.

Interesting post Ricky. We go out of our way to look after our animals and quite often forget about ourselves. We are very lucky in Australia that we do have access to fresh fruit and vegetables plus lots of people grow them in their backyard. But junk food is becoming more and more popular as it is so quick and easy (and cheap) as everyone is always busy and don't have time to cook meals.

Ain't it the truth, Ricky. Actually, having birds around makes me more conscious of what I'm putting in my own mouth. It hasn't entirely broken me of the potato chip habit, but in other ways it helps. I buy more fruits and veggies, and since you can't really buy them in bird serving sizes, I wind up preparing more for us than I might otherwise.

Couldn't agree more with you Ricky. We overlook diet altogether too often, and it is critically important. Not just low calorie or low carb or whatever the latest fad is, but actual holistic nutrition, real, CLEAN (which is also a challenge) food. As you noted, in this country it has become a huge problem, and it's catching in the rest of the world too, for sure. I'm not sure a pellet for humans would cut it though-- I worry about feeding such processed food as the main component of a diet to our fids too... All the more reason to focus on feeding them veggies as much as possible.
