For the past two days, I've been suffering with a painful pinched nerve in my back. I'm not moving around too well, and have had to temporarily deny Ralph any out of cage time. There's no way I could sit on the floor with him, or bend down to pick up whatever he pulls out of the dishwasher; even carrying him around on my shoulder would be tough right now. Instead, I've spent lots of time sitting next to his cage talking to Ralph, giving him scritches and playing tapping games with him, and he seems fine with that-- and when I let out an ouch when trying to get up from the chair, I get very concerned looks from him. Maybe he does have a little sympathy for me when I'm in pain.

Hope you feel better soon. I recently had to go to hospital with about 2 hours notice so had to take Shah to the vet to mind. Didn't pick him up until the 4th day and he was in quite a state. It wasn't until I said "cheeky boy" that he realised it was me and the relief was obvious. He was so nice to me that day - of course I copped it the next day.

So he's not really confined to his cage...you're nearly chair bound! I hope you feel better soon. I've had sciatica and nerve pain is the worst. :-(

Thank you, I'm slightly better today. At least now I can bend down to pick something up without screaming. Not that doing so is exactly comfortable yet, but at least it's possible. That's progress, I think. Since Ralph expects to be carried around to explore his favorite places in the apartment, and I'm not quite up to that yet, he's still spending all his time inside his cage. He has plenty to do in there and gets lots of attention too. I think I feel worse about not bringing him out than he does.

It is amazing how guilty we feel when we are sick and cant attend to our Royal Masters' needs.

Thanks Biteybird. Unfortunately, while they know what the problem is, they cant locate it so another trip to hospital may be on the cards. Depends on tests being done next week. However, after the shock of it as well as heart problems caused by it, I have adjusted my life accordingly and now am a lot more relaxed and have stopped worrying about every little thing. I have finally stopped to smell the roses.

I hear about people's animals being oh so sympathetic when the people are hurt or ill, but I've never thought mine were all that compassionate. I recently had shoulder surgery, and my grey just recoiled from the sling. Peppy Q looked at it with the slightest of curiosity and then appeared to think something like, yeah, yeah, where's my cookie? Some years ago I fell down part of a flight of stairs in front of a bunch of people - no real injury except to my dignity - and my dog ran over to me and thoroughly barked me out. Talk about adding insult. Disturbed her nap, I guess. Things like that happen, and I wonder, hey gang, where's all that empathy I know you're capable of? I hope everyone is feeling better soon.

I have adjusted my life accordingly and now am a lot more relaxed and have stopped worrying about every little thing. Now, that is the challenge, isn't it? I thought I'd done the same over the last 5 or so years, but I've found you have to 'whoa back' (catch yourself again) every once in a while...this world has a habit of making unrelenting demands! And we make unrelenting demands upon ourselves. I do hope your visits go OK and that you treat yourself kindly.

I'm happy to say that I'm doing somewhat better now, and moving around a lot better. Ralph has been getting out of his cage, at least once a day now. The first time I brought him out, he ran up my arm and started preening my hair and purring.
