Mr P might surprise you. By the time Pele is ready to pack his bags Mr P he might have 'warmed' to him. I'm super impressed with how the adoption procedure is run by the Florida Parrot Rescue - very thorough. And like Easttex said, that will minimise Pele's chances of being passed around.

Actually, I was so super impressed with the adoption procedure and the way they handled my adoption of Mr P, it prompted me to join the organization as a volunteer/foster! Pele does not warm up to people and situations very fast so yes, minimizing the "being passed around" thing is something he needs. It's almost a shame that I am going to wind up with him as long as I am (I am guessing at least till spring) because I really don't want him bonding to me to the point where he is disrupted when he is adopted. For him, the sooner he gets adopted out the better, however, it's a catch 22 because he really isnt ready unless an experienced bird person who can work with him takes him

Hi Sharyn, I am having quite a few problems with Shah at the moment so your thread on clicker training will become invaluable to me as I plan to start training him tomorrow. He is completely out of control - he is biting at his neck again and scrabbles around the floor of his cage at night when he should be sleeping. It is hard to ignore the behaviour but I know I am reinforcing it if I react. He is going into a moult but he has been also pulling at the feathers around his neck and he now has a huge bald patch. The pins are starting to come through so I know that the biting will continue. He is on camomile tea as the rescue remedy didn't seem to work. He is getting an aloe bath today and I am trying to spend as much time with him as possible. So thanks for posting the step by step training you did with Pele as it will help another bird

Good luck, Jan. Hope the training works for you and Shah. Maybe he is angry at you for forgetting his hatchday? The beauty of the training is they LIKE it. Pele literally hollers at me in his little pionus squawks when I skip a morning of training The utility cart arrived yesterday, it was a joke. The size was much smaller than was advertised so I made the best of it and put together a new, much smaller than I wanted it to be, playstand. I'll post a pic in the next few days. Pele hasnt been on it yet, my b/f and I redesigned it tonight after he was already in his cage. He did look on with KEEN INTEREST while we worked on it so we'll see how he does on it either tomorrow or Fri. Pele and Mr P both had their cages moved, Mr P is in my bedroom for now because his cage is in the hallway, normally, right next to the baby's room (my 1 yr old grandson is visiting) and Mr P wakes him up every morning. So he is in my bedroom. He is angry at me because I removed all the bells from his cage since he was getting up in the middle of the night and playing with them. Pele was in my dining room, but I am having a lot of folks here over the weekend. Not all of them are bird folks and probably would not appreciate flying feathers in their food, so Pele is where Mr P normally is because he, at least, is fairly quiet. Anyway, the point of that being, not sure what kinda time and attention the birds are going to get over Christmas so not sure when I'll have a chance to get a pic posted of Pele's new stand. Happy Holidays everyone !

My niece is coming to stay for a week shortly. I am a bit worried about how Shah will react esp. seeing as he is having a lot of problems at the moment - hopefully all will be okay. Found the clicker and will go through your posts tonight so we can get started tomorrow. He has had a good day - got to spend time with him and he had a bath with aloe in it. He ran over to the cockatiels' cage and sat on top of it - they hated it - he loved it and was very smug that he was lording it over them. I am trying to change his routine so it distracts him from biting at himself. Good luck with all your guests. I remember when Shah loved having lots of people around - now he hates it. Just post a pic of the stand after the Christmas break. Thanks Sharyn - kisses to the wonderful Mr P and Pele.

Yeah, the little changes from the original to this don't seem to bother him. The only thing new is the little cart, the playstand itself and the PVC he should be used to by now. As soon as we let him out of the cage this morning, he went right down to the new cart stand and checked for yummies in the food dishes. Since these are the same dishes I've been putting them in, it didnt seem to phase him
There were too many people in the house today to try moving him away from his cage. At one point (and I have to laugh) he was SO CURIOUS about what was going on (my 1 yr old grandson was opening presents) he actually flew off his cage and chewed one of the boxes. First time I think he has willingly interacted with us on his own.
