Beans is a 6 year old male Pacific Parrotlet who came from Pico's breeder!
I've been wanting another Parrotlet for awhile, and there aren't any babies available locally. When I asked Nita's husband if she had or knew of any, he told me about this little guy.
Nita hand raised him for her daughter, who gave him tons of attention, until she moved. Sadly for him, she moved into a place where Beans would not have been safe with her Indian Ringnecks, so he stayed with Nita and her husband where he's safe but didn't get as much attention.
When I asked about a baby, they said "we have an older male that we will give you". OMG, what a gift!
He's home and settling in, and I have a question about one of his behaviors. I've watched hours of YouTube videos, but what does it mean when I put my hand in the cage and he runs over and thumps it with his closed beak? LOL
He's perfectly fine with my hand in the cage when we're playing with his toys, and he seems to like having his beak rubbed. He's done the regurgitation dance several times. LOL

Welcome to Beans! Have you asked Nita about the hand-thumping behavior? She might have an idea about what he's doing and why. There are lots of things it could mean, like simply wanting attention, wanting to play or wanting to be picked up.

LOL The beak bump is him nicely asking us to get out of his cage.
He also regurgitated for both of us, which is a really great sign that he's happy here! They only do that when they love you! I'm so glad!!

Sorry, very late to this thread (haven't logged in for a while), but I was going to suggest it's a sign of affection. Our Bourke's parrot does this, even though she's quite distrusting and not hand tame. And Bonnie runs over to our feet and taps her beak on a toe when she is feeling happy/playful. I don't think it's a negative behaviour. Anyway, looks like you already sorted it out! Hope you're all well!
