Hi, I haven’t posted here in awhile, things have been crazy in our house the past year and a half. They had finally calmed down with our Daughter going off to college this past college... the house was a little quieter, lol.
Anyway, Ollie, our Quaker was doing fine. He was out and about every day interacting with my husband or I, depending on who was home. The past few weeks, he had become a Velcro bird to me though. I have been home because of a back injury, so he has been able to spend more time with me, and he sure was! He was on me all the time. If I left and came back, as soon as I walked in the door, he would fly over to me as soon as I took my coat off. Sometimes I would forget that he was on me because he was so content, and he wouldn’t make a noise. Last Thursday, I went grocery shopping, came home and I was putting the groceries away in the fridge and freezer. Ollie flew over and landed on my back and climbed to my shoulder. I finished putting all the groceries away. I had a bag of garbage and some recycling that needed to go outside. Without even thinking, I walked outside to throw them in the containers, and as soon as I lifted the lid, Ollie got scared and flew off. I hollered for him, but he wouldn’t come back, and I couldn’t see where he went. My Son, some of his friends, my husband, and I all searched for him for 2 hours, but it was sunset when he flew off, and we couldn’t find him anywhere.
We put his cage outside put food out, and at sunrise we went out looking for him again and didn’t find him. We played Quaker callings for 2 hours outside that day, and searched at sunset again. We have searched and called for him every day, but still haven’t found him. It has been 7 days now. It was fairly decent weather here (Wisconsin) but now it has gotten cold again, and he doesn’t have all his feathers Because he had plucked them and they were growing back in, so all he has is the downy fluff. He has his tail feathers and his wing feathers. I miss him so much. I don’t know what to do. Part of me thinks he may be dead ( we have hawks, eagles, coyotes, and raccoons right near us.). Also, Quakers are illegal in Wi, but I had bought Ollie before they made that law. I don’t know if I can legally get another Quaker now, and it will break my heart if I can’t. . I’m sorry this is so long, I just needed to vent. Thank you.
