Hi i'm new to this forum and would love to have some advice,
I had a quaker parrot in about 2 weeks ago, i rescue all time of birds but i mostly specialise in budgies and cockatiels, when i had the quaker in he's about 4 months and i named him Coco he looked very scared and very loud screeching noise been told hes 4 months old the previous owner only had him for a week and before that he was in a pet shop, but every time i looked at him he goes away from me and do a screeching noise as i never had a quaker before is this normal and how do u tame them as i figured it out its nothing like a cockatiel or a budgie, i figured he been neglected in a pet shop or when kids see the birds probably they was to loud for coco,
i tooked him in as i couldnt see no birds being neglected, i did do my research before i had him and said they are territorial of their cage but if you could help me how to tame him and not being frightened every time i look at him and everytime i give him fresh food and water he goes mental.
My name is David Morgan and i'm from Wales, UK just assumed i better introduce myself

Welcome to the Forum. My own ancestry is Welsh (among other things), and it's nice to see someone from Wales here on the Forum. It's possible that your rescued QP was neglected or mistreated in the past, so it will likely take a little extra patience and time to work with Coco. A good approach with a new parrot is to sit as near to the parrot's cage as he is comfortable with and talk softly to him. If you must start out sitting a good distance away from the cage, gradually move closer to the cage. When you approach the cage, move slowly and talk quietly to Coco. This way, you can help him get used to you, your body language and the sound of your voice.

Welcome to the forum David and Coco, cnyguy gave you good advice to go slow I can reach into Casey’s cage at anytime, she is not territorial in the slightest. Years ago on this forum I was given advice to rotate perches and toys weekly so she wouldn’t have a set area to defend. Casey will be 13 on the weekend good luck I hope you can make some progress. I look forward to updates
