Is it possible to overfeed a QP? Cody is currently on a seed based diet - I am trying to get him over to pellets but we are only on week 2 so Im taking my time with him due to all the adjustments recently. He currently has about 2 tablespoons a day of parrot mix - he doesnt eat all of it - hes rather fussy! In is other pots he has probably a table spoon of different fruits and another tablespoon of different veg in total for a day I put in fresh veg and fruit in the morning then again at lunch and then again at tea time so he always has a different mix for each meal and its always fresh. So far on his list is grated carrot, cucumber, sprouting beans, red peppers, peas and sweetcorn, for the fruits, pears, apples, watermelon strawberries and banana and then his parrot mix. He also has some of my toast (granary) in the morning - he shouts if he doesnt get any now! but with no butter and he also gets steamed rice if weve had some for tea. Does this all sound ok? He always has food left over so I know I'm not under feeding him but just dont want him getting overweight if thats possible?? He is out and about all day - we have an open plan living room which he has full access to and hes always mooching about so he has plenty of exercise. I cant pick him up yet so I'm not able to weigh him unfortunately. Thanks in advance for any advice

I'm always happy to give my opinion , but it is based more on parrots in general than on quakers specifically. They can be overfed, particularly with seeds, but you're obviously working on that. I would keep in mind that Cody will probably never be more apt to try new things than he is right now, so you're doing well to expose him to lots of different things. Establishes good habits for later. I wouldn't worry about overfeeding him the vegetables, with the possible exception of corn. It packs a lot of calories for limited nutrition, compared to most other veggies. I'd watch the fruit serving sizes, but would continue to offer a variety. But yes, obesity in pet birds is all too common.

Casey eats about a tablespoon of pellets each day. She gets a fresh dish with a spoonful every night before bed. I agree it is great you are offering lots of different choices and yes not too much fruit, too much sugar for them.
