Hi!
My Quaker parrot - Sophia, had an injury on her leg that she was mutilating the injury site. I've gone through the gambit of collars given to us by our vet. Her leg has almost heeled but now she is mutilating her neck. Our vet told us to take off the collars to see if it will heel up.
She is still picking at her neck occasionally to the point that it is bleeding. The really bad spots are pretty high up on her neck. Does anyone have any recommendations for a soft collar that has a large height? I think that if we can get her neck to heel a little more the mutilation will stop but it's hard to monitor her 24/7.
Side note: She's also taking anti-biotics, anti-inflammatory, gabapetin & tramdol for a short period of time. Our vet thought the gabapetin & tramadol would relax her and make her less obsessive about her wounds. It's definitely helped but has not subsided her agitation.
I would love to hear any suggestions about picking and or recommendation for a collar.
Thank you!!!

If Easttex is online and sees this post she could probably advise you...sorry, I don't have any experience with this type of situation, but I want to wish you and Sophia well.

On a bird page on Facebook, I saw somebody was using a hair scrunchie for their bird's collar. As long as it's not tight, you might try that. On a Quaker, it shouldn't be tight. Her bird was a conure and they're about the same size.
