Last week I couldn't access the Forum (error or something) and then we were away with no internet for a few days and I didn't see all this until now. How is Lily going? Has she forgiven you yet for clipping her wings?

Yesterday she very grudgingly took a bite of millet from Zach and then from me a few hours later. 😊

LOL Lily is still running circles around me. She's very happy here, and I know she likes me. She plays with her toys and preens in front of me, and she loves playing the blinking game with me. She doesn't want my hands near her, though. I'm kind of at a loss. 😊

Just take things slowly, Dani. Lily may be one of those parrots who takes longer to accept hands. In the meantime, just continue to enjoy each other's company and as your bond grows stronger, it's likely her trust in you will grow too, and she may be more comfortable with your hands.

Thanks, Gary! Hearing that really helps, and tonight she let me touch one of her toes! Yippee!!!
Zach is trying, but Lily does not trust him at all. I'm going to have him read about the blinking game and see if he can make progress that way. I'm taking the book to him right now.
Thanks again for the encouragement! 😊

I spent WEEKS trying to tame Benjy with no apparent success and one day, he just hopped onto my hand and that was that. I was also sorely tempted by a budgie at Petsmart yesterday. He was only about half the size of the others in the cage, but based on the stripes on his head, is full grown. The others were kind of picking on him and I wanted him SO bad. Clyde and Freddie wouldn't bother him; they never picked on Benjy. That was Jade who did that. But Hubby would have gone straight up, to quote a saying of my mom's, and I also promised myself I would devote my time and attention to my three remaining birds and make sure they get all the attention they never got when we had too many. With only three, everyone gets plenty, and Mama doesn't spend hours every evening tending to chores instead of hanging out. I actually timed the chores yesterday and I got the cages cleaned and the floor swept and mopped in 15 minutes. It used to take a good hour.

You deserve a gold star (or something) for resisting the temptation to bring the budgie home. I know how tough that can be. But I have no doubt that your reputation is still well known in the avian world, and someday somebirdie may show up at your door with his little suitcase...

Probably. The friend who gave Jade a new home has cockatiels and they had babies recently who are now weaned and ready to move on. She offered me one of them after Benjy died, and Freddie is still missing his partner in crime, Johnny, who died almost two years ago. I said no, though. I'm going to concentrate on these three.

Awwwwww. (((((HUGS))))) The temptation is SO hard to resist!!!! But I bet you, Clyde, Freddy and Rocky are enjoying spending more quality time with each other.
Lily still is a hands off budgie, for the most part.
We had a small incident today. LOL I opened her cage to give her a bit of roasted seaweed I was eating and she jumped off of her perch. She usually goes to the opposite corner, but today she flew out the cage door. Whoops!
Luckily she hasn't molted yet so her wings are still clipped. She led me on a slow speed chase around the bird/fish room, into the dining room, around the table, around Bilbo (he wasn't sure what to think, he looked very confused about why this little flappy thing was literally running in circles around him with Mama right behind it), and back into the bird/fish room where I finally caught her. LOL

I think the boys are enjoying the extra attention. Rocky is even learning to share mama time and that's a miracle.

Holy cow. I have to get Lily used to my hands! I was in the dining room digging through a box, throwing things away and I heard Lily flitting around her cage. But then I noticed that her wing beats were a weird rhythm so I turned to look. She was upside down on her rope swing so I went to see what she was doing. There's a tassel underneath the perch part of the swing and her foot was caught in the tassel. She wasn't making any noise, except for her wings.
I put my hand in her cage and she panicked and got herself loose...but wow.
I'm untangling the tassel now, and will definitely keep my eye on it from now on.
I turned the lamp on and covered her cage so she could rest because the foot was bothering her. But a few minutes later she was flitting around again and when I lifted the corner of her cage cover she was staring at me. LOL
I think we dodged a bullet. She's acting normal and has no trouble using that leg. I just took a video of her playing. LOL

Maybe you ought to just remove the tassel. Budgies can get into the darnedest messes.

If you notice in the video she gets her toenail caught in the cover, too. I'm thinking part of the problem is that she needs her nails trimmed. That's going to be fun! LOL

I always gave Benjy the wood or plastic swings in his cage. Once he decided he was tame and refused to go in his cage anymore, he pretty much stopped playing with toys and just followed Clyde around. But he loved swings and toys up until then.
