I am glad it’s all going so well! Each day he will surprise you with new things. How have the last few days been?

Buddy is doing well with his step ups but when i take him out of the cage he just flies away! I have tried all sorts of treats but he isn't interested in anything so with no treats to entice him, i don't know how to reward him other than to tell him he's a good boy. I rearranged his cage so he now can get all around pretty well. I bought a couple food and water cups that i could hang where he likes to hang out so i could get the bowls off the bottom of the cage but he hasn't used then yet so i have to leave the ones on the bottom till i know he will use the other ones. Am i expecting too much for one week? Any suggestions appreciated!

It will take time to set up a routine. Some people say if you take them to a small room away from the cage to train, they will be more apt to focus on you and not flying back to their cage. It is very good you are rearranging his cage, you should do that weekly in the beginning, this will help Buddy not become cage possessive and not bother when you reach in for him to step up

Today was great. Buddy steps up every time now and the cage rearrangement was a hugh success. He is using his entire cage now, playing with his toys and eating and drinking from the high up bowls so i was able to get the bowls off the floor of his cage. I still haven't found a treat that he will eat. I played a you tube video of a Quaker talking and Buddy started chatting like crazy. I played it again later and he did the same thing. I would say he really likes it! Along with the good comes a little bad... he is trying to bite now. When he did this i held his break and said no and then continued petting him like nothing had happened. I hope that's the right thing to do. Any advice?

You and Buddy are making great progress in such a short time. If you haven't already tried them, a few treats that are popular with parrots are pumpkin seeds, Cheerios cereal and plain popcorn. My two love popcorn. I use an air popper, but however it's prepared, no butter, oil or salt should be used.

Buddy is doing well. If he wants to hear Casey when she was young here is a video of her first words
Yes if she bites anyone I say no bite. She understands. If she did that then she was younger we just put her back on her cage. She soon learned she got to hang out with people if she was nice

Casey is precious. She is very smart... potty trained too! That was very kind of you to add the video. Thank you. I ran out and bought cheerios today. No luck. Do i have the only bird in the world that doesn't like treats??? So frustrating. Is he just too young yet? Buddy actually called for me when i got home today and he was happy to just sit and let me pet him without flying away. Another little progress. It's like watching a child grow waiting to see what he does next. No biting today. Yeah

Haha, you need to remember that all quakers are, by nature, oppositional-defiant! Every morning I get Bonnie (5 years old now) out of her cage before I go to work...every morning I say "Scratch?" (which she LOVES)...every morning she will go the opposite direction just because SHE CAN! Aaaghh!
