For Christmas, I gave the little birds a toy that is sort of like a small cargo net made of sisal and hangs from the ceiling by plastic chains. It's big enough for any of them, and it's sort of like a hammock. Nobody would go near it, not even Benjy and he's Captain Lionheart.
Two days ago, I went into their room to tuck them in and there was Clyde, not only on it, but IN it, so if he hadn't answered when I called him (because I didn't see him anywhere), I wouldn't have even seen him, he was so deep in it. I fetched him down and put him to bed in his cage as usual, congratulating him for finally playing with the "new" toy.
Last night, I went to tuck them in and there was Clyde, in the hammock thing again. This time, he wouldn't come down when I asked. Nope. He wanted to camp out. Benjy, who is never far from Clyde, was on the very top of the boing next to the hammock and he also refused to come down. Fine. I pick my battles. You boys want to sleep there, that's peachy keen. Jade had already put herself to bed and Freddie was in his usual spot on top of the hanging lamp. An hour or so later, it turned cool outside so I went back in to turn off their window fan (and check on them to make sure they didn't change their minds and panic in the dark) and there was Clyde, snoring peacefully in the hammock and Benjy, snoring peacefully on top of the boing. Freddie's the only one who was still awake enough to notice me, and he just peeped in a groggy sort of way. Freddie started this whole thing months and months ago when he and Johnny (RIP) decided to stop sleeping in their cages. Clyde has lived with us for 10 years and has never spent a night outside of his cage until last night.
